CHAPTER TEN
'everything is going to be alright'
-

his legs flung back and forwards slowly, the cold air hitting his face, drying the tears that rolled down his cheeks.

he was such a crybaby.

a stupid crybaby.

he needed to get out of the house desperately. he felt as he couldn't breathe in there. so he grabbed his bike and pedaled as quick as he could towards nowhere, anywhere.

eventually he ended up leaving his bike in the middle of the woods, and started walking.

and he was now here. at the quarry. the almost green water laid beneath him. his hands were on his lap, his head down.

there was a peaceful but painful silence. it was difficult to explain. the silence was interrupted, his mind focused on the steps that he heard approaching him. he looked back with parted lips.

there, upon his eyes was who once was his. the brunette girl with crazy curls sprawled all around her head. plump and soft lips, oh so kissable. his brown eyes, where he could get lost forever.

god, she was so beautiful.

"mike" she whispered, his name rolling out of her tongue.

he didn't know why but his name sounded so much better when she said it.

he dragged his eyes away from the petite girl, returning to the water beneath him.

"what are you doing here?" she spoke again, her tone soft, a wave of worry sensed.

as he didn't answer, she pursed her lips, and walked a few steps forward, eventually sitting down next to him.

her eyes travelled around his face. his eyes, his eyelashes, his freckles, his also plumped and so kissable lips. his sharp cheekbones and jawline.

god, how beautiful.

she looked down at his hands, and slipped her own into his. her hand was between both of his and he brought them up, kissing hers softly. they eventually locked hands, fingers intertwined as she brushed her thumb against the back of his palm.

"my parents" he finally spoke. he took in a shaky breath, "they're getting divorced" he gulped and looked down at their hands.

her lips parted as she said his name again in the softest tone, full of sorrow.

she placed a hand to the back of his neck, and pulled him to her, her own eyes becoming wet and her vision blurry. his forehead was against the crook of her neck and she could feel hot tears against her skin.

jane wrapped her arms around him tighter, closing her eyes.

"everything is going to be alright" she whispered, "i promise"

"they fought with holly right there, el. they didn't even care. i knew they didn't care about me but i th- i thought they'd at least cared about holly. fuck. i'm such a bad brother, i just- i left. i didn't take holly, i left her in that hell hole"

"hey" she cupped his face, "relax, okay? we'll go and pick up holly and- and we can go and drive to nancy's, okay? i'll go with you"

she's so brilliant.

mike nodded and sniffled, tucking his face deeper into the crook of her neck. he'd missed her warmth so much.

"everything is going to be alright" she reassured him.

he wanted to kiss her. god, he really wanted to kiss her.

he eventually looked up at her and he did it. it was a brief second, a little kiss, a peck, a brush of his lips against hers. he didn't know if what he was doing was okay. did she want this? she stood paralyzed, looking at him. she did not expect that, like... at all.

it seemed as if they had read each others minds somehow when, at the same time, they crash into each other, her face on his hands and lips against each other, her hands were
on his hips and before they knew it she was on his lap. and his lips trailed down her neck and down her jaw, placing soft and teasing kisses on her skin. she shivered.

her hand was on the back of his neck, her fingers grasping softly his hair. he came back up to kiss her once, twice. until he stopped to look at her and she whined a little, a smile tingled on his lips.

she grinned at the fact that she had made him smile in such a difficult time for him.

and suddenly, they were back.
