I sat in shock as I heard the news my mom told me. It was pretty freakin jaw dropping. "Go back. We're moving because you got married without my knowledge?" I said. I'm not gonna lie, I was glad she was finally moving on. Dad died 4 years ago, but to get married to someone from another state behind my back was pretty outrageous. "Now that Dad's been gone so long, I think it's about time we move somewhere a bit friendlier." she replied. She was right we lived in a rough part of Brooklyn. I'd gotten pretty good at fighting and parkour just so I could make it home without getting maimed or something. I was also pretty flexible, too, which was a plus. I also had a feeling my beautifully dyed bubblegum hair would be disappearing soon, too. "Well, as you know, we're moving like right now. So finish packing your things. We'll get there by tonight and we'll get your hair fixed there. School starts in two weeks and no dyed hair." she said, sounding more disappointed than me. I stomped off to my room and began throwing the rest of my things in the boxes.

Neatly, of course.  Everyone, because of my tough exterior, thinks I'm just a bitch. I'm not. I'm caring, make good grades. I'm sarcastic and funny. My bitchy side is just from having to survive in this hellhole. Sara Kennedy isn't just bark and bite. She's gentle. She has emotions. She has insecurities. She's had crushes, and people she hated. I never had a best friend, or someone who loved me. So maybe Mom was right. Maybe it was time for a change.

We were moving to this placed called Derry, Maine. That's where my new family, the Denbrough's lived. After the wife left because of what happened to their son,Georgie, he met my mother. They got married, and now I was going to live there completely uninvited along with their son who was around 5 months older than me, like everyone else in my grade. I was in December, which makes my birthday unfairly late, so I'm still in the same grade as him. "I think you'll get along well." Mom told me as we pulled up to the house. Movers began putting our stuff in, and once we were settled enough, Mom and Mr. Denbrough went to bed. I sat in my room alone, along with my books, enjoying myself, when I heard a small knock on my door. "He-hello?" I heard Bill say softly. He had a stutter, but it barely phased me. I put my book down and pulled the blanket from over my head.

"What's up? It's kinda late." I asked, a little concern in my voice.

"Nothing. I ju-just wanted to t-talk bec-cause I c-can't sleep."

I sat up and scooted over. I patted one spot on my bed and he hesitantly sat down. "Do you wanna blanket?" I asked. He looked like he was gonna talk, choked a bit, then just nodded. "What's with your hair?" he asked. "Huh?" I said with a slight chuckle "Y-your hair. It's p-pink."

"Oh yeah. I got it done at the beginning of summer. My old school allowed dyed hair, so it wasn't a big deal. It's getting undone tomorrow, so don't get to used to it."

He giggled

"I th-think it's nice."

"I guess it's time for a change though. I didn't plan on keeping it pink for forever."

"B-blue might s-suit you better."

"What's it like? Here in Derry."

And I unleashed a little shop of horrors. He told me every last scary detail of what happened last summer. Every spine tingling detail. From his brother's disappearance , to his first sighting of the clown, to Neibolt, to how they defeated. "W- w-we're s-s-afe, now. S-so don't worry." he said. "Can you stay in here tonight?" I asked. "Sure." he replied.

I noticed something small about him. How he gently laid down next to me, and turned out the light. Just like my dad used to. He sat there and held me close. He cared about me. He knew I was scared. He didn't care we weren't related by blood. He just knew we were family now. That was all that mattered. Just like my dad used to, he covered me in another blanket when he noticed me shiver a bit. It was still quite hot outside, which meant our house was freezing cold. That night I survived my first night in Derry. And for the first time, I didn't have to do it alone.
