Breathless

Chapter 26

Devon rushed at Aaron in a blur, launching his brother and his self through the front entrance of the house, into the forest outside.

Aaron crashed into a nearby oak, creating a large crack sound as the force of his body broke into the trees tuff bark. Devon skidded to a stop a few yards away, he watched as his brother slowly stood up, obviously a bit weak from the fight before. Devon however had completely regained his strength, taking only a small amount of Emily's blood was enough for him.

"You've left me no choice brother, I can't let you turn Emily and make her your puppet" Devon shouted towards Aaron. Aaron stood upright and clenched his fists, starring at his younger brother with rage in his eyes.

"Very well, let us finish this" he said in an angry tone before charging, Devon quickly dodged and moved further into the forest, wanting to get away from the house and the members inside. Aaron followed, both running at speeds barely seen by the naked eye.

Devon stopped right before he reached the river, his brother yards behind him. He turned as Aaron stopped and the two made eye contact. Devon did not want to kill his only brother, and neither did Aaron, but both knew it was the only way to end this for good.

"Madi! Are you okay?" Emily ran over to her friend as she came down the stairs. Madi gave a small smile, happy to see Emily was alright.

"I'm fine" she said softly but her smile quickly faded. "Where's Devon?" She asked in a serious tone.

"He's fighting Aaron, I don't know how far away they are though, I.... I'm sorry, this shouldn't be happening, they're going to kill each other because of me" Emily said, her voice sounded broken and she looked as if she was holding back tears. Madi got closer to her, trying to comfort the girl.

"Emily, don't blame yourself, you didn't want this, no one did" she said quietly, then moved Emily's hair a little to the side. "Did Devon bite you?" She asked.

Emily reached up to touch the small wound from Devon, he hadn't healed her, the skin around the bite was a little warm. She looked up at Madi but saw someone behind her, standing on the steps. It was the little blond girl from upstairs, she was covered in blood and her eyes looked puffy from crying.

Madi turned around and put herself directly in front of Emily, just in case the young girl thought of doing something she shouldn't. Danielle just starred at the two women before her, her eyes a dark red glow. She moved her gaze to Emily who was still behind Madi.

"You said they're fighting, right?" Danielle asked, Emily nodded her head.
"Then I hope Lord Devon burns Aaron alive" she said with a blank face but a tear escaped her eye and ran down her cheek, she started to walk towards the front entrance of the house.

"Wait, where are you going?" Madi asked, Danielle didn't stop walking as she spoke.

"I'm going home" before the two could say anything else, the girl was gone.

Madi turned towards Emily again and grabbed the other girls hand lightly.

"Emily, listen" she spoke quietly, gripping Emily's hand and holding it with both her own. Madi's hands and most of her body were still covered in blood, for some reason it didn't bother Emily and she starred into Madi's dark red eyes as she spoke.

"I don't know what's going to happen, but if Devon isn't the one to come back" she reached into her back pocket and put a car key into Emily's hand, closing it with the one she was holding. "I want you to get out of here and drive far away, I'll hold Aaron off for as long as I can, I'm still pretty weak but I can buy you a few minutes" she squeezed Emily's hand one more time before letting her go. Emily looked down at the object in her hand, then back up at Madi.
