Chapter I: Night of Vampires

~9 years later~

~Yumi's POV~

Cross academy, a private school where students live on campus. A place where humans and vampires can live in harmony and sing cumbaya.  Ha! It's Dad's whimsical dream, but nobody really knows that there's vampires on campus so there's no real harmony. I'm the only human in in the Night Class, mostly because I'm a night owl also my BVF: best vampire friend, Senri Shiki is in the night class.  I wake up in the morning to help Dad with paperwork, make breakfast for everyone and make lunch for Dad. Other than that, I'll pretty much sleep or do whatever.  

Right now I'm making breakfast. Dad is getting Bacon and eggs, Yuki gets my special chocolate chip pancakes and Zero gets his oatmeal and  fruit salad. I was flipping the last pancake for Yuki when I felt a warm body behind me. I turned to see Zero grabbing a cup for  his orange juice. A lot has changed in the 9 years, we all got taller and  are young adults. I blush at how close we were. 

"Hey, Yumi! I know I'm good looking and all, but if you keep staring you're going to burn the pancake", snapped Zero.

I shook my head and served the last pancake. 

"Thanks Zero, and you're not that good looking with that swollen head of yours", I retorted.

"That's not what your blush said", he shot back.

"S-shut up!" 

I punched him lightly and he nudged my shoulder. I cracked some eggs into the skillet and fried them  with some bacon. I finished  making the eggs and put them on a platter. I was crisping the bacon when I felt eyes on me, I looked over to see who it was. It was just Zero, wait what? I did a double take to see that he was looking for the orange juice.

"It's on the second shelf, Zero", I said  as I served the  bacon and grabbed a sauce pan for Zero's oatmeal. 

"Where? I don't - Found it!", he said with his head in the fridge.

"Aww, you two look so cute together!", said a voice I recognize as my dad. "Zero, why don't you man up and ask Yumi out?"

Zero stood up from his hunched position and was as red as a fire truck.

"Um.. I haven't thought about it", he lied. "What about Yuki? She's old enough to find that special someone!"

"She is. But I just think that you and Yumi would give me such lovely grandchildren", said Dad. "But if you like Yuki.... I guess you would be a cute couple."

"She's like my kid sister."

"So you're saying that she's not good enough for you?", I asked as I turned off the stove to look at him without worrying about the water.

"I never said that, she's just younger than me", Zero defended.

"So what? You like cougars?"

"I don't mind a girl who's a little older than me." 

I lost it, I punched him in the back and he pushed me back. 

"Pretentious pervert!", I shouted.

"Half pint Daddy's girl", he spat back.

I stormed out of the kitchen and sat in the living room. Everyone was shocked that I could make a big fuss over Zero's taste in women. I heard Zero say that I was PMSing. 

"I am not! I know my own body, you perv! Don't accuse me of what you don't know!", I shouted. " I may be five inches shorter than you but I can still show you where my shoe fits!"

"I'm just saying", Zero said.

"And for that comment, cook your own damn breakfast Kiryu! You always complain about how I make it anyway, you freaking giant!"
