Harassment
AbuseI sat, tense as could be, as a stranger slowly rubbed my thigh. I panicked as his hand went higher up. Of course, this has to happen the moment my boyfriend left to use the restroom.
This is not how I planned my Saturday night to end up. But I had a feeling something like this would happen it always does. People see me and think I'm an easy target. It's disgusting.
I know events like this aren't normal or okay, but they seem like they're normal to me because I always seem to end up in this very situation. I hate this, but I don't know what to do. Could anyone here help me? The bartender was too far away, talking to someone while he fixed a drink. There were no other sober people in sight.
My head hurt with fear and anguish. The man wouldn't stop, his hand grabbing my hip. I gulped, pushing at his hand. He didn't move.
"WHAT THE F**K?" My boyfriend, Kent, boomed as he stomped towards us. I jumped, my heart dropped to my stomach.
This is it. This is how I die.
The drunk recoiled his hand quickly, but it was too late. Kent saw him and his fist socked the drunk's mouth, which whipped his head to the side.
I gasped loudly, scooting as far away from Kent without falling off the flimsy stool. He turned his boiling red eyes to face me as anger burned his cheeks. I wanted to scream, but I knew that if I did, he would scare me twice as bad once we left the bar.
He grabbed my wrist with his calloused hands and yanked me onto my feet. I yelped in pain, uselessly trying to get my wrist free again. This isn't the first time a creep harassed me in public and the definitely not the first or last time Kent hurt me in public. I whimpered, walking with him towards the door, trying to get away.
His grip wouldn't loosen," Why the f**k would you cheat on me?" He hissed as a crowd slowly formed,"Why can't you just learn your manners!"
I choked on my words barely able to speak," Calm down, I didn't do anything-"
I was cut off by his hand slapping my cheek, causing my whole head to turn just like the drunk. Everyone around us gasped, some were too high or too out of it to fully comprehend what happened. Why does he always have to overreact, I'm not his property, I'm no one's property! I began to tear up, too afraid to look back up and face him again.
"You slut!" Kent fumed, grabbing me by the shoulders and shaking me hard.
"Get away from her! I'm calling the police!" The bartender yelled out, phone in hand.
Kent growled loudly at him, pushing me and turning to dash out of the bar. I hit the ground watching Kent run towards the Exit. Some huge guy caught Kent by his wrists and secured his hands behind his back. Kent struggled in fear, he's caught by some bouncer. The bartender pushed through the crowd to check on me.
"Are you okay? Where does it hurt?" He calmly asked me, holding onto my shoulder.
I wince away from him, holding my hand up to block my face from his view. "I'm okay. I just want to go home," I sobbed lightly. The bartender lightly held me hand, trying not to startle me. I stood up with the help of the bartender and we get away from the crowd that formed.
*****
I woke up in my home, my whole body feeling heavy. I groaned, stretching. Most of the night I was hanging out at the police station talking with people. It took a lot of energy to talk to so many different people and repeating the same story.
There was loud knocking at my door, sounding very urgent. I got up, shuffling towards the door, unlocking and opening it.
My best friend, Melody, sprinted into my apartment hugging me tightly."Amelia, are you okay??" She worried, cupping my face and looking at me with concern.
I gulped quietly, looking down,"I-it's fine, It's just Kent being Kent."
She fumed with anger, forcing me to look into eyes that flickered,"I'm going to put him in jail then I'll kill him."
My eyes widened,"N-no!" I tried to grab her while she stormed past me, but I failed miserably.
She's known that Kent hurts me, she's trying to get me out of it. Never has she been so insane! I chase after her.
"Please! Stop!" I squealed, chasing her as she grabbed my apartment door handle. I lightly grabbed her hand, pulling her towards me.
She shudders, gripping my hand back,"Why do you let Kent control you like this, it's unhealthy. Why didn't you break up with him sooner?" She was breathing heavy and still pretty angry.
I shrug, "I was scared, but now I'm with you. We can worry about Kent tomorrow, I'm tired of thinking about him right now." I pause, squeezing her hand, "I just don't want to be alone right now."
Melody nods lightly, "I'm just glad you're okay now." She lead me to my room, setting me on my bed. "You should take a nice bath, it'll calm you down. You just sit right here while I get everything ready for you."
Melody kisses my cheek before starting my bath and finding clothes for me in my closet. I'm thankful she's taking care of me. I lay back on my bed with a soft smile.
The next day, Police showed up at my apartment. Melody stayed close with me the whole night and I knew the police where coming. The police were informed that we weren't in an emergency since is in a jail cell at this moment and they decided they'd speak with me at my house in a couple hours. They wanted to ask some more questions and look around which I didn't mind.
"This is the police," A deep voice called from outside my front door after a series of light knocks.
I gulped, Anxiety filling my veins and effecting my actions slightly. I began fidgeting, it's always hard to talk about Kent.
I watched as Melody opened the apartment door quickly. A woman and a man stomped towards me, politely asking me to stand.
I stood wrapping my arms around my stomach self-consciously. They both looked scary but they assured me that I was safe.
1 officer was already asked to search around the house and I let him while the other stayed to talk with me.
The woman had to be at least a foot taller than me. Her messy brunette hair stumbles over her gorgeous face. She had bushy eyebrows and a perfectly rounded nose. She was stunning! Not to mention her giant, twinkling green eyes that stared into my very soul.
"Um, Detective Rainey couldn't be here today, so as the next in command, I will investigate you, if that's okay." She advised, amused by my ridiculous face as I stared at her.
"I'm Officer Heito, care to tell me everything that happened?" Her calming voice made it sound like she's met me before, odd.
