It seemed like yesterday. But now the streets were empty save for only empty vehicles, some broken down or rusty and some burned. Trash and broken objects scattered about. The sidewalks once smooth save for a few cracks were now broken some missing different sized slabs of concrete showing the dirt underneath the street was the same maybe even worse.
The homes themselves were slowly breaking down in different degrees. Except for the one that she stayed in. Which was strange to her but she never really gave it to much thought. You can't really when your busy staying alive in an apocalyptic world. Except there was one thought that did go through her mind often and that was how all this came about and why.
"Still doesn't feel real, any of this really. Seems like only yesterday I was at work with the guys down in the mail room and now...." Thinking to self and looking up at a reddish like sky that once was blue with clouds and a bright yellow sun.
She knew where to go for more supplies but wasn't looking forward to it. The homes on the street that she lived on were already picked clean some by her but mostly by others before her. She never saw who they were in fact all this time she never once met anyone alive.
She headed down the steps and turned right. The place that she was heading to was downtown where a few shops still had some supplies in them. If she hurried she might just make it back before night fall.
