Quickly walking down the steps she turns right heading towards a once busy intersection. Reaching it she stops only for a moment and then turns left towards downtown.

"Have to hurry before dark." Thinking to self while almost running.

Reaching downtown she heads towards Fair street were several stores lined one side of the street while the other side was a large empty lot that people use to park at. At the end is a cafe.

Passing a few stores she heads to Spellmen and Sons grocery store. Before going in she looks at the front of the store. The double doors that once were a dark green the window now gone use to have the name in gold letters along with a vine on the edge of the glass was boarded up. There was a small gap in between the doors.

A tattered faded green and white awning hung over the store. She squeezed through the gap in the door. Standing up and looks sadly over to the counter were Mr.Spellmen use to check out customers or would be in debate with Mr.Winslow about baseball or would be like always reassuring Mrs.Leary that the oranges were fresh.

The store was painted a green and white. Favorite colors of Mr.Spellmen. A layer of dust covered everything. Most of the shelves were broken and empty save for the back one. The freezers were also broke and empty.

She heads to the last shelf and took what she could carry that wouldn't weigh her down to much. Packs of bottled water were stacked up by the wall waiting to be put away but that will never happen. Opening some bottles she pours them into a few canteens.

The green and white flooring cracks under her weight as she made her way back to the front. She stops and looks up to large hole in the ceiling. The reddish sky was turning black. Not like a night sky. It was more of an inky blackness.

"Damn! Wasn't fast enough." Angrily thinking to self.

Fast as she could she squeezed through the door and ran towards the cafe. She had hidden there several times in a metal cupboard in the kitchen. It once was used for pots and pans.

First time hiding there she had almost giving herself away when her foot hit one of the pans. Before leaving she took all the pans and pots out to keep that from happening again. At the time she didn't know if she would ever have to hide there again but she wasn't going to take chance if she had to.

Pushing the door open she looks back towards the street that was turning darker and darker. Hurrying inside she runs to the back towards the kitchen. Past a stove with burned food on it and counters with rotting food in bowls or plates for customers.

Taking the backpack off she slides into the cupboard and closes the sliding door just in time before the kitchen is engulfed in darkness.
