Ryker pressed the button and suddenly, the small device emitted a golden glow before the glimmering light throbbed and pulsed onto his skin and when my fingers touched it, as fast as lightning the throbbing attacked Ryker and I. It seeped into my body and I couldn't control my limbs as it lifted us into the air. The current scenery before us disappeared, and like a blur of existence we sped through the unknown darkness. My body was shifting around and I presumed I was moving. A wave of nausea filled me as my gut was in my mouth and all I could hear was Ryker's loud yelling. Then, I saw a flicker of light inch closer and closer every second.
Was I dead? How could I be? Nothing has killed me and I felt no pain other than the extreme nausea.
As I plunged into the light, a scream escaped my lips as I landed on the softness of the floor with a loud thud, face first, never wanting to move and grateful for the firmness of it as the throbbing in my stomach grew weaker and the nausea had a slightly lighter hold on me.
I decided then and there, that would be a future last resort of travel.
"Ouch!" Ryker yelped as he soon followed after, landing next to me.
I struggled to stand, my legs and arms wobbling before the nausea caught up with me, and I ran to the nearest tree before letting my insides spill into a bush. After embarrassingly wiping the throw up off the corners of my mouth, I let out a long and content sigh as the sickness in my stomach was gone. Ryker stumbled towards me, his clothes patched with dirt and his face as pale as a ghost, before he too threw up in the same bush I did.
"Next time, we're walking." Ryker huffed, hunching over and resting his hands on his knees.
Taking a look around, we were no longer in the field of bright yellow trees and flowers, but on the edge of a large village. A cobblestone footpath laid underneath my feet and lead towards a series of creme-coloured buildings. There were large stone walls that surrounded the area, and green forest trees decorated the outside. Behind the village, in the background, a tall grey mountain stood high and the tip almost touched the setting sun.
"What is this place?" I asked, my head still gazing up at the mighty mountain.
"I don't know, but we're a long way from home." Ryker answered slowly as he too marveled at our surroundings.
People riding donkey's with cart's attached to the rear passed us, and others were either sitting on horses or walking. What happened to the cars and buses? Have these people even heard of vehicle transportation?
"Hey, you two!" A tall, masculine figure that wore a dark blue hooded cloak stood ahead called out, making my heart jump as he pointed a finger towards us.
"Does he mean us?" Ryker asked me.
"Of course he means us! Who do you think he's pointing at!" I yelled in a whisper.
Panic began to fill me as the figure started to walk over to where Ryker and I were. I saw Ryker tense next to me and this caused an unsettling feeling to crawl in my stomach. My eyes frantically searched the area, first landing on the deep green forest that surrounded the village, then the creme-coloured bricks that were stacked into small houses and buildings, to the few people walking by that also wore dark blue cloaks like the man currently approaching us.
When he stopped, I inhaled a sharp breath at the glowing eyes that hid in the shadow of his hood as he stared at me. They were a mismatched pair of orbs; the left eye was a honey brown while the right an emerald green. "Emery Watson." My full name left his lips and my whole body froze.
The man lifted his arms and flipped the hood back, revealing his face. A thin, long scar that started from the tip of his right eyebrow to just above his cheekbone seemed to mesmerise me in deep wonder for a moment. How did he get that scar? Was it from a fight? When did he get it? As I studied him, a shivering wind blew, making his blonde- almost silver- hair that covered his forehead completely flow in waves.
I snapped out of my daze when Ryker cleared his throat impatiently. "Who are you?" My best friend firmly asked.
The man's mismatched eyes darted to Ryker and narrowed slightly. "Pierce. I was sent to collect both of you by Sarah and James."
My ears tingled at the sound of my aunt and uncle's name and I raised my eyebrows. "They told you? They're here?"
Pierce let out a frustrated sigh and turned around, his back now facing us. "Just follow me." He began to walk of.
I looked at Ryker, who looked at me with the same expression I held. Utter confusion.
"W-what?" I stuttered, watching the figure walk off. I didn't know whether to follow him or stay here. But he knows Aunt Sarah and Uncle James, maybe he knows where they are. "Excuse me!" I called out, but only received a loud frustrated groan, as he was now a few metres ahead of Ryker and I.
We both jogged up to him. "Could you at least tell us where we are?"
Another groan left Pierce but he didn't stop. I began to grow irritated, and apparently so did Ryker. His hand flew to Pierce's shoulder, tugging him back and stopping our walk. I held my breath as Pierce's figure froze, his fists clenched tight and when he whipped around, his mismatched eyes narrowed into thin slits.
"Look, could you at least tell us where we are?" Ryker asked, clearly unfazed by Pierce's deathly glare.
A long enchanted breath escaped his lips before Pierce answered. "You're in Angora."
And with that, Pierce shoved Rykers hand of his shoulder and stalked off, leaving me unsatisfied with his answer.
As we followed Pierce, a still silence hung in the air between the three of us. Ryker was completely focused on burning holes through Pierce's back and I received a few strange glares from the people around us. A little girl that stood beside a small house even pointed at me.
All I wanted to do was run home, no matter how far away it may be. I didn't belong here.
