Kiera had watched in utter amazement as Hyn and Goshawk danced. Some of the moves she knew from watching the videos of Lipizzaner stallions; capriole, courbette, mezair. But some of the moves she had never seen nor imagined. Goshawk pranced on his hind legs, tucked his head below his raised forelegs. He performed the moves at a gallop. He sprang up and wheeled in a circle, on his hind legs.
And then Hyn disgustedly refused to have any part of showing it to anyone else, contemptuously dismissing the eager public as The Great Unwashed.
Maybe, she thought, he would be less contemptuous if he just went and watched. Nobody there would be as good as he was, and probably nobody would have horses as good, but he might see that there were riders who were doing their best to make their horses look good, and horses that were really great. Not as fine as Bellerephon, or Ghazi, or Aristides, but probably some very fine horses.
Kiera now sat on her porch, and wondered how she could talk Hyn into going to Havre with her. Provided Dad and Mom even said she could go.
Come to think of it, they would probably have to borrow Dad's truck. Hyn didn't seem to have a vehicle.
Dad usually could be bribed into doing most things by chocolate pudding pies. Mom could be more difficult, but most things she came around if you washed the floors and dishes and windows without being asked. Sometimes it took doing the laundry and scrubbing the porch, too, but the point was, if you did enough house work, Mom would give you what you wanted, too. Usually. Now it only remained to be seen what Hyn would do anything for. She fetched a notebook from her room and began a list.
Hyn likes:                                    Hyn doesn't like
Horses                                            Most people
Quiet                                              Chickens and pigs

After a long time, she gave it up. Hyn didn't usually talk much except to say, "Move your seat. Don't lean to the side. Push forward with your seat. Look where you want to go." He rarely said anything about anything other than riding, and if he did, it was usually a disparaging remark about humanity or chickens.
Then Kiera had an inspiration. What if Hyn has never had chocolate pie?
