The past
The strong scent of freshly brewed green tea filled the air as rose up from the kitchen downstairs. I fidgeted in my seat, knowing that Zengzumu my grandmother was awake from her midday nap. Out of everyone, my grandmother meant more to me than anyone else. She was my best friend, I told her everything.
Anxiously I shifted in my spot, knowing it was soon tea time. Tea time for me meant sitting down with grandmother and listening to her stories, one father said were nonsense, old fairytales and nothing more. a light yelp escaped my lips as my head was yanked back by my hair.
"Stay put I'm not done yet " Kara, Complained.
Kara was the girl from next door, she was the same age as me and our mothers were book club friends. Which meant despite not really getting along, our mothers forced us to play together. today like every other time she came over, she decided what to do. Today that was doing my hair no matter how much I protested.
Settling down I twisted my bracelet around my wrist impatiently and anxiously waiting for her to finish with my hair. I could feel her doing things with my hair, but I couldn't tell what exactly what it was she was doing. an uneasy feeling settled over me as Kara pulled away reaching for the mirror she handed it to me.
"Done" she giggled before stepping in front of me a smirk forming on her lips.
Looking in the mirror my eyes grew wide as I saw my reflection, my already short locks that were once at my shoulders were now unevenly cut at my jaw and in some spots so short they were sticking straight up. A shriek escaped my lips as Kara broke out into a fit of giggles.
"I look like a troll!" I screamed at her.
