It's Saturday. I arrived at Luke's house right on time with a bag of the materials he told me to bring. My mom had stopped at Michael's on the way there to get them. My mom dropped me off and I went up to ring his doorbell. He opened the door. "Hey. I'm here." I said. "Oh, cool. Come in." he said, smiling. We went into his room, got everything out and I started to form compost piles and vertical gardens out of model magic and moss. He put the poster board on the floor and started painting it green to look like grass, with a blue stripe to represent a river. He also painted a blue blob for a lake. I made dome-shaped houses out of model magic. We glued them onto the poster board and started to make solar panels and wind turbines. We set them aside to dry, and took a break for a second. "You want anything to eat? We have chips and drinks." "Do you have iced tea?" I asked. "Yeah." he said. He left the room and was back a few minutes later with a glass of lemonade and a bag of chips for himself, and a glass of iced tea for me. Handing me the tea, he asked, "So, tell me a little about yourself." I was suddenly caught off guard. What did he want to know about me? What was I supposed to tell him? "Well, I like to read. And listen to music." I said awkwardly. "Cool." he replied. "What kind of music do you listen to?" he asked. "Um...I like punk rock, and heavy metal. I also like old bands, like Nirvana and the Arctic Monkeys. You?" "Oh my god, you basically just described my music taste. I love punk rock, and alternative. Do you like Fall Out Boy and Mayday Parade?" "Yes, I love them!" "Cool!" he said. I felt myself slowly becoming more comfortable hanging out with him. He seemed like a really cool guy. "Anyway, we should probably get back to our work." he said. "Yeah." I answered. By then, the solar panels and wind turbines had hardened, so I painted them and put them on the board. We made a smart rail system for transportation. With a paintbrush in his hand, he reached over me to paint it. I felt something cool on my back, and looked at him. I knew what had happened. A surge of anger rushed through me for a second, but then, I found myself laughing. "I'm so sorry, Alli. I really didn't mean to..." "It's fine." I said, cracking up. He had accidentally hit me with his paintbrush. A streak of blue paint stained my shirt. He started to laugh too. "But only if you let me do...this!" I said, picking up a paintbrush, dipping it in white paint, and flicking it at his shirt. "Hey!" he said, punching my side playfully. I looked at my watch. "Oh my god! It's been almost two hours already!" "Wow. Well, time flies when you're having fun." he says. I was really surprised at how well the two of us bonded. I would never have thought that we would actually become friends. In a few minutes, I heard my mom pull into the driveway to pick me up. "Oh, there's my mom." I said. "Aw. We should...maybe...hang out some time." he said. I didn't know what to say. "Yeah." I said, blushing. Wow. Was I really blushing over this boy that I barely knew? "Well, my friends Calum and Michael and I were going to the movies next Friday night? You wanna come?" "Sure." I said with a smile. "Awesome. Meet us at the Worthington Plaza theater at 7:00." "Okay. I'll be there." I said. He gave me his number. "Here." he said. "If you're ever feeling down, don't hesitate to give me a call." "Thanks." I said, and heard my mom beep the car. Well, I better go. I got my stuff and said goodbye.
That night, I felt like Luke was all I could think about. Was I seriously...getting a crush on him? No, it couldn't be. I haven't had a crush since 2nd grade. Besides, Luke doesn't like me...
