BACKGROUND
( before "Hiraeth" )"You've got to stop that crying - you're not a baby, I swear girl I've never heard a ten year old whine so much. Ain't nobody on the damn Ark has it easy, Hazel. Chin up, and raise hell."
- Nygel Ekulona—
Hazel Hudson was born and raised in Factory Station. Her very early childhood was a blur. When Hazel was 2 years old, her mother (Keira Hudson) was floated for the crime of having two children. Hazel never met her father, and after her mother's execution she was taken in by Nygel. As soon as her half-brother, Matthias (aka Matty) was born, he was taken away by the Council. When she asked, Hazel was told Matty had been given to a barren couple who lived in Alpha Station.
Hazel's curiosity got her disallowed access to Alpha Station. Despite being ordered not to, she tried countless times during her childhood to visit her brother which resulted in her suspension from the Station he lived in. The reasoning behind why the siblings were separated in the first place was never explained.
Hazel was brought up by Nygel to be an insurgent and thief. She blamed the council for her mother's death, and did anything in her power to rebel against them.
When she wasn't stealing or rebel rousing, Hazel had a passion for reading, especially history. She spent hours studying ancient languages, which came to her quite easily. She also decided to pursue the mechanic stream, hoping one day to earn her zero-g qualifications and to spacewalk. She also knew the skills she would learn would help in her various ventures.
Despite her involvement in delinquent activity, Hazel herself was never caught or locked up. She did manage to make it to Earth, though. When she found out the 100 were being sent to the ground she teamed up with Wells Jaha to get a seat on the ship.
