the sheets crinkled beneath his body as he rocked back and forth. the overcoming sadness was coming in waves. he couldn't control it and it made him panic. no one was there to help him. no one was there to tell him it would be okay.

she was gone to get McDonald's. she would be back soon. he needed to get himself together. before she-

"david?" she stood at the doorway, the bags on the floor. the tears on his face and his trembling hands were evident from her view but she couldn't hear the heavy breathing. "let you down," by NF played on repeat almost at full volume and she had to turn it down.

she cared for him in a way no one else would. she reassured him that nothing bad would happen to him and that she loved him to death. she didn't do anything to him without permission and was gentle. she never made any moves that startled him or did anything to make him feel more down.

"david, nothing bad will happen i promise. i'll protect you love. i love you so much, more than you know. i would never leave you. i wouldn't even dream of it. you're so handsome and smart and funny and sweet. you may be in a dark place now but i'll help you swim to the surface. the air up there is so much better than suffocating down here. i'll help you every time you feel like sinking." she held his hand, moving slowly and intertwining her fingers with his trembling ones.

"what if i drag you down with me?" he asked, shaky and looking up at her.

"then we'll swim up together. now, do you want to watch Netflix and eat McDonald's?" he nodded and they cuddled the night away.

the night was shared with reassuring kisses and cuddles and laughs. he loved her more than himself and he realized she'd never leave him.

ever.
