"...and where do you think you're going?" I hear my mum moan from behind me. Damn, almost got away with it. "Just out" I say, hoping that would be enough of an explanation, but knowing I'd be wrong. "Out where? We just got here, Elise, and you're already trying to get away from us. Aren't you going to help unpack?" We just spent 10 hours on a plane, and another 3 hours travelling in the car on top of that. Over half a day wasted travelling from England to America and now we're finally here, the last thing on my mind is unpacking. "Really Mum? You dragged me out here to watch you stack plates and cups in a cupboard? You know me, can't keep me cramped in for too long, I need to get some fresh air, do some exploring!" I smile at her, pull a pouty face and watch as her mood changes. Now she's smiling back at me. "Fine, but just for an hour so don't go too far. I might be able to stack plates myself but I'm sure you don't trust me to start setting up YOUR ROOM!" She's sure right about that! "Alright, alright, I take the hint, one hour! I'll see you soon..." I yell back at her as I grab my bag and run out of the door before she has chance to spout off any other rules. I slam the front door behind me, breathe in the fresh, new air and head in the first direction my legs take me.

Everything feels bigger in America. The buildings, the houses, the people, hell even the trees seem taller. Which in my books, is a good thing. Makes it easier to lose your head in, to just walk and enjoy your own thoughts and imagination. I'd managed to find a park at the end of my block, it was nothing like the parks I'd seen back in England. This one went on and on, so far that you couldn't see where the other end would lead to, so naturally, I had wanted to find out. I let myself stroll casually through the park, watching the people and their mannerisms as they passed me. My mind wondered and before I knew it I'd reached the other side of the park. Through a giant archway at the edge was a little street with a few shops and cafés. I look down at my watch. Dang it, maybe I took that walk a little too casually, I've been out nearly 45 minutes and I still have to walk back yet. I spot a little café/bakery ahead of me, a sign hanging above it stating it's name; 'Crumbs'. Maybe I'll just pop in there and pick up something sweet to take back with me, then she can't be so mad at me for being late. I check the road and dash across it, heading through the door into the bakery. There're so many things on display, cakes and pastries of all kinds. It's reasonably quiet though, a man sat reading a newspaper with his coffee, an elderly lady with what I can only assume is her grandchild, and a small group of boys laughing and joking in the back corner. I scan the shelves of baked goods, though I already know what I'm going to order, and without looking up say "One blueberry muffin please" but my voice sounds odd, not like my own, there's an echo. My eyes dart up to see who had given me that echo and as they reach his face I'm stunned into silence. His deep eyes look into mine as he starts to smile. He lifts his hand up to his fluffy brown hair and starts to speak. His lips are moving but I can't hear a thing, all I can think is...wow! His jaw line is moulded into perfection, and his lips look so soft. I could lose myself for days looking into his eyes. Then his expression changes and I start to worry, he looks confused. Oh crap Elise, he's been talking to you for ages now and you've just been staring at him like a rabbit trapped in headlights, say something for damn sake! "Sorry" I blurt out "what did you say?" "I said blueberry muffins, they're my favourite, have you had one from here before? They make them the best" His voice is soft, it matches him seamlessly "No actually, I've never been here before, I just moved here from England." "Ah, I thought you had an accent, that's cute. Well, welcome to Cali" he smiles at me and my heart warms "Thanks" I just about manage to get the word out. "Well, I should get back, my names Cameron though, maybe I'll see you around" he says as he picks up his muffin, smiles at me one last time and heads back to his friends. "I hope so" I say under my breath as I pay for my order, and head out the door, his face printed in my mind, along with the smile on my face, and butterflies in my stomach.
