Mako watched in amazement as Korra used waterbending to douse the few flames left.
"But how...what...but..." Bolin sputtered as he glanced from Korra's smug face to her hands.
Mako's heart dropped as he realized who was standing before him. Who he just insulted the heck out of.
He sank into a chair, pale as a ghost. Mako covered his face with his hands and groaned.
"You're the Avatar and I'm an idiot."
"Both are true." Korra said hotly before turning away.
She then used earthbending to further her point and created a bouquet of rock hard flowers.
She handed them to Bolin with a bow and said, "Sorry to deceive you, Bolin. You're a nice guy but you don't know who you can trust nowadays."
She glared at Mako, who still had his head in his hands.
"You have to be especially careful with guys."
Mako stood up, stepping closer to Korra, holding out his hand.
"Look. I'm an idiot, we've established that. But today isn't a good day. You caught me off guard."
Korra slapped his hand away in disgust and turned to Bolin.
"Alright, Mako," she said softly. "But remember this, I'm the Avatar. I save the world and the people in it. And that could have included you. But starting today, I swear that if I ever raise a finger to help you, I'll destroy my most prized possession or the thing I treasure most. That's how sure I am of your character. I don't like you at all."
Mako silently looked her over. It was true that he treated her awfully when they met, but what girl didn't succumb to his charm eventually? Most likely, she'd forget.
So with that thought on his mind, Mako grinned.
"If you say so, Avatar Korra."
Korra's face changed for a split second and a unrecognizable feeling flashed over her features.
"Uh. Okay. So I'm leaving now," she said, swiveling to Bolin, who was still in awe. "I'm living over on Air Temple Island if you wanna hang, Bolin. Not Mako."
Mako scoffed. "Like I'd want to hang out with you two losers."
He slipped a shirt over his head as he spoke and grabbed his scarf.
"Nice scarf, Mako." Korra said teasingly. "Where did you get it? The women's section?"
Mako scowled at her and grabbed Bolin's arm.
"Come on, Bo. Let's get out of here. But first, should we bow to you on the way out, your royal Avatarness?"
Mako was getting angry at her, for insulting his scarf, and for deceiving them.
Korra just walked past them and headed out the door. Her graceful movements showed she was trained. How he would love to see her bending.
Mako shook his head violently. She was the Avatar and he was a poor bender. They couldn't even be civil with each other at their first meeting, not to mention the insults.
Mako sighed and rubbed the back of his head.
"Let's head back to the loft."
