The following is something I have been working on...please provide feedback and let me know if there is any interest in reading further. This could end up being quite a large volume, as there are many thoughts I want to incorporate into this writing.
I do not have a doctorate in philosophy, but I do have a lot of thoughts about life and existence. I have pondered this subject for many years, and now it is time to get them out to all of you.
You may agree in full, partially, or disagree. But the objective is to get people thinking about deeper issues than just their everyday life. I hope I can help trigger some of this thinking in all of you.
Please leave comments, and share if you are interested in reading more. I will wait until I receive at least 10 comments before adding more of this content. Thank you and enjoy.
At the core of what drives me to write the words that follow is the question, "Why?. Of all the species that exist and are known to us,only humans have the ability to question their existence. At least in the minds of humans we are the only beings capable of such inquiry.
Nonetheless, it cannot be denied that humans have the ability to question their existence. Not so much in a way that we question whether we actually do exist, although questioning can lead us down that path as well. But rather, in a way that leads us to ask our importance in life, or our purpose. This line of questioning often leads to answers such as "our purpose in life and the meaning of our existence is because God put us here", or to the other extreme "we are the result of billions of years of evolutionary processes", or some other explanation that falls somewhere between these two extremes.
Whatever reason one might adopt for our existence, the underlying message that results from such inquiry is this - why do we feel the need to question our existence? The reasons for this could be many. But regardless, the quest for knowledge pertaining to this subjet is undeniable. And this is what I hope to address in the framework of this writing.
When considering such inquiry, one must first, I believe, decide where it is they stand concerning their belief in God. Either one believes in God, or one does not. And this belief will ultimately pave the way to their belief in their own importance in life, as well as serve as a foundation for the formation of other beliefs.
Another consideration that needs to be made is what is constitutes "existence". What does it mean to exist? Is existence all that we can see? Can something that cannot be seen still exist? If we ever hope to develop an elaborate answer as to why humans find the need to know why it is they exist, it would be helpful to know what is meant by existence.
After such time when we have concluded as best we can, for we can never truly know with absolute certainty, the truest meaning of existence, and have decided whether we believe God exists or does not, it will then be important for us to consider what it is that separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom, as well as other species.
As a means of determining what it is that separates humans from other species, I will attempt to present at least two diferent viewpoints concerning the origin of humans. I will present a Christian Biblical view concerning human creation, as well as a chronological history of humans, as determined by top scientists, and known as the theory of evolution. I will also present a third view that combines these two viewpoints, and provide an argument to indicate how this third view is at least possible.
When it is finally established that the best possible answers for our inquiry concerning existence, another topic of consideration will remain - with the ability that humans have to think and reason, question their existence, and manipulate their world in just about any way that they choose, are we really living in the best possibly societies, cultures, and lifestyles? In other words, knowing we can manipulate the world around us in just about any way we can imagine, and knowing that we have the ability to develop any types of societies and cultures we deem necessary, have we really proceeded in the best possible direction? And, if we arrive at the knowledge that we have not used our ability to develop the best possible societies, cultures, laws, etc., the question again becomes, Why?
