"Barrymore, I'd like you to meet Arenson. My friend from back home."
Barrymore froze. He recognized that name from when I lent him a shirt of Arenson's that was given to me.
"This is... this is the guy whose clothes you gave me? How did he get involved in all of this if he's human?" He seemed more confused than angered. It was surprising to me at first, but then I realized that anger was pointless. Arenson was already unconscious, there wasn't much more to do besides kill him and I just couldn't. He was the one who could give us the answers.
"I don't know. He's not an Eerie, he must be a Count. I don't know how he knew about all this, or when he became one, or why he's targeting my family. Our family's had always been close, we've known each other since birth it seems. I don't know what happened." Then I remembered. I never really knew his parents. It was actually him, me, and my parents that were close. I met his mother once, but she seemed reserved and as if she was afraid something was going to jump out and attack her.
Was his dad like Jostlenua's father?
A thought occurred to me.
No, they couldn't have the same father. They looked nothing alike for one thing, and for another Jostlenua's father was always either out stealing or at home with him.
"Ames, he is waking up. What do we do?" I had to think quick.
"Put him in the chair that I didn't make collapse. We have to find something to keep him there." Barrymore picked him up under the arms and dragged him to the chair. We both searched around the stone room. We had to be quick, since Arenson was quickly coming to.
"Will this work?" He held up a stretch of chain links about as tall as him.
"Perfect. Come on, we have to hurry."
We were too late. As I turned around to tie him up, I realized he was gone. I saw a shadow move in the back of the room, and decided to follow that. I Felt around, and suddenly came across him. Right behind Barrymore. I couldn't yell out for Barrymore to move or Arenson would panic and strike him. I had to think.
An idea it me. We both had intellect, so maybe I could send this information from my filing cabinet to his. I had to try and fast. I kept shifting my eyes so that I wouldn't clue him in to knowing I saw him. I thought as hard as I could: He's behind you. Don't turn around until I say. He's behind you. Don't turn around.
His eyes flashed to mine in a confused way. He got it! I think he heard me! I saw him close his eyes. He Showed me his plan.
When I told him to turn around, he would do so and wrap the chain around Arenson's arms and stomach, trapping him, and throw him to the ground, pinning him with his elbow in Arenson's throat.
I kept shifting my eyes, pretending not to see him. I walked around some more, trying to keep up the act. I saw Arenson inch closer and closer. Once he was too close for comfort, but just the perfect distance for Barrymore to turn around and enclose him, I thought with all my Strength "Now!"
Barrymore turned around and executed his plan perfectly. I saw him snap to the right and bring the chain around Arenson's back and twist it into a know right in front of his stomach. His arms were pinned to his sides by the chain, and before he could react Barrymore punched him in the gut and swept his feet out from under him. Arenson landed straight on his back, coughing and wheezing to catch his breath.
Once he did catch his breath, he started laughing maniacally.
"You think you're so smart, using your Abiities. You think you've won." He spit out blood, and began laughing again. I walked over to him and knelt by his side. I turned his chin so his eyes were locked with mine. I said nothing. Neither did he. After about a minute, when I didn't lessen the intensity of the stare, fear began to creep up in his eyes as he realized that I was dead serious. And very deadly. I saw one tear fall from his eye. I stood up and walked over to Barrymore, knowing that I had just won.
