WAYWARD WALLABY
On Monday morn before five am
Meaning to beat the busy traffic,
Not intending to cause mayhem,
A wallaby went hop, hop, hopping,
Decided against stop, stop, stopping.
At the toll gates eight lanes converged
And that was where the traffic merged
On the famous Sydney Harbor Bridge.
Was it heading for the Opera House
Way down below on the southern ridge?
The cops woke up and became busy.
This strange event caused quite a tizzy.
One stopped playing his favorite song,
Radioed cars, " Check Point Bennelong.
Men, have you seen what's hopping along?"
First thoughts were he'd escaped from the zoo
But that was proven not to be true.
Perhaps the intrepid macropod
That was out of place and looked quite odd
Left the golf course back in Cammeray
To do some sight seeing for the day
But, never you mind and don't dismay.
A vet checked him out on that same day.
Very soon he was hopping around
But banned, for sure, from Sydney town.
