Chapter 2- Familiar Faces

"Rebekah?" Matt questioned, he thought he would never see the blonde original sister again. "What are you doing here?"

"I need your help with something." Rebekah explained.

"What is it?" Matt wasn't interested in getting involved with the Originals problems again, last time he nearly died.

"Well actually it's not your help but one of your friends," Rebekah said.

"Who?"

"Bonnie, I need a witch."

"Is that a joke? That's not funny Rebekah." Matt said, it was true he had started falling for her during their summer abroad but if she was using Bonnie as a joke that went too far.

"A joke? Matt this is serious I need a witch I can trust and well there aren't many out there."

"Rebekah don't. It's barely been two weeks since," Matt started but couldn't finish, he hadn't actually said those words out loud yet.

"Two weeks since what? I don't really have much time for stories Matt, this is urgent."

"Rebekah, Bonnie, she's um, she's dead." Matt said barely being able to get it all out.

"She's dead? Bonnie? Bonnie Bennett is dead?" Rebekah questioned, Matt could actually hear sorrow in her voice but mostly surprise. "How did it happen?"

"She was the anchor to The Other Side, but I guess, I mean they won't really tell the whole story so I don't know every detail, but, um it just sorta stopped existing and she went down with it." Matt explained. Elena and Stefan wouldn't tell him the whole story, truthfully he wasn't sure they could tell it even if they wanted to. Those were the bits and pieces Tyler had told him.

"The Other Side is gone? That was there even before I became a vampire how did it just vanish?" Rebekah asked.

"I honestly don't know, it's a touchy subject around here." Matt said his voice still quiet.

"My parents, as much as I came to dislike them, and my brothers are over there. So what now they are just gone?"

"Rebekah if I knew I would tell you but now really it's the time to be asking those questions here." Matt was starting to regain confidence and was beginning to become annoyed with Rebekah's responses. "Damon, he died too."

"Damon Salvatore?" This time the shock in her voice was loud and clear.

"Yes." Matt replied. "Why did you need a witch you could trust?"

"Long story short, I am an aunt and I have to protect my niece." A smile began to form from the corners of her mouth.

"You are an aunt? Is that even possible?"

"Didn't Tyler tell you?" Matt shook his head in response. "Oh well Klaus and Hayley had a baby and then some, or really a lot of, people wanted her dead back in New Orleans so Klaus trusted me to take care of her."

As if on cue a human, who Matt was pretty sure was a teacher at Mystic Falls Middle School, emerged from the dense of trees. In her arms was a baby wrapped in a pink blanket. The baby was asleep and the women holding her obviously had no idea what was going on.

"Thank you," Rebekah said taking the baby from the women's arms. "Now go and be human and forget this happened, tell no one you ever saw this child alive." With that the women turned around and walked away.

"This is Hope, Hope meet Matt, he's a good friend." Rebekah said in a babyish voice. Matt laughed and smiled at the baby and then looked up at Rebekah. She was smiling at him and for a brief moment he could see the girl he'd left behind that day they promised to move on and go separate ways in the fall.

"She's cute," Matt said finally breaking eye contact with Rebekah and looking back at the baby. "Hope is a pretty name."

"Truthfully I was hoping they would name her after me but I guess it'll just be Auntie Bex for now." Rebekah looked happier then Matt had ever seen before with her niece in her arms.

"Bonnie, you wanted her to help and protect Hope, didn't you?" Matt asked.

"Yeah, it has to be someone I can trust, someone who won't spread the word of the Original Hybrids daughter." Fear crept into the back of Rebekah's eyes.

"Tyler's house, no one beside him and Caroline have been invited in, you will be safer there then out in the woods," Matt offered, "At least until you find a witch."

"Thank you Matt." Rebekah smiled.

When they arrived at the porch of the Lockwood mansion Matt told Rebekah to wait there as he broke the news of an Original's arrival to Tyler and Stefan by himself.

"You can come in, but stay here until I say otherwise." Rebekah gave a nod of approval though the thought crossed her mind that both Stefan and Tyler could easily hear them if they wanted too.

Rebekah stood there holding baby Hope in her arms for a few minutes before any signal came. But the noise wasn't from inside the house, it was outside.

She whipped around tightening her grip on the baby. But she didn't see anyone outside the door. Slowly she walked deeper into the house for shelter. No one harmful has been invited in she reminded herself.

"Rebekah?" Matt called. Sighing with relief she walked towards the living room where Matt's voice came from.

"Bekah! Hey what's up?" Stefan slurred, clearly he had been drinking. "Heard you finally got a chance at a family nice." He starting laughing as if it was a joke.

"Good to see you Stefan, I must say it's been at least 90 years since I have seen you drunk." Rebekah spit back.

Stefan's only response was laughter.

"He is still a work in progress, but hey we all handle grief differently." Tyler said standing up and walking closer to Rebekah. "So your dick of a brother has a kid now? Weird."

"Yes. Nik has a daughter, Hope." She agreed that her older brother was a dick most of the time but she didn't enjoy hearing other people say it.

"Matt told me I could stay here until I find a witch who can help me." Rebekah stated. She didn't bother asking Tyler's permission to stay in his house.

"You are letting her stay here?" Caroline had finally turned up again.

"Care! You're back, could you pour me again drink please?" Stefan asked motioning his glass to her.

But Caroline ignored him and continued to glare at Rebekah.

"Why do you have a baby?" She asked.

"This is Klaus's daughter, Hope, I'm surprised you didn't over hear that part too?" Rebekah had turned on her bitch mode just as Caroline had too.

"Klaus's daughter?" Caroline said, her eyes nearly popped out of her head. "That isn't possible!"

"Oh it is, just ask Hayley." Rebekah smirked.

"HAYLEY? She is the mother?" Caroline nearly screamed.

"Wow jealous much Care?" Stefan said which again made him crack up.

"I am so done with this family." Caroline stated and then stormed out of the Lockwood house once again.
