Chapter 2: Banishment

     "How could you leave her to die!" I shouted.
     "If that is her fate, so be it. She's only a human." Gabriel calmly replied. He felt no affection nor attraction to humans. His only goal was to please god. I needed to do something. I couldn't let this innocent woman die at the hands of a petty thief.
     I ran to a hole in the clouds I looked down. It was close enough to the scene. I jumped and dive bombed hoping to catch the thief in time. I'd no more than spread my wings than there had been other angels.
     I doubt they plan to help me. I shouted over the noise "Leave me be! She's done nothing! Is this our job? To sit back and watch evil be committed at the price of the innocent?"
     "Our only duty is to obey god. There is no need for emotions or attachment. Dare I say there is no room for emotion and attachment."
How could they. I understand we should obey god but I can't sit back and watch people be wrongfully hurt.
I'd just reached the spot where she had been mugged and saw nothing but a bloodstain. I'd been too late.
     I fell to my knees in regret and depression. The angels reached me on my knees sobbing gripping the ground "are we doomed to be useless? I wish I was a human. At least I could make a difference."
"I can't say much about that but you might get your wish. This stunt will not go unpunished." Madriel replied.
