(Carters POV)
So here's the thing, Leah has quit dance which is amazing. She's happier and healthier and we get to spend more time together but her parents don't know. She's scared of what they'll say. So she's been spending a lot of time at my house because her parents think she's at practice.
"Darling I think you should sit them down and tell them. They are your parents. They will love you no matter what." My Mama said
"Mrs. Dexter you don't understand. They spent all of their money putting me through dance since I was little. I feel like I wasted their time and money." Leah said laying her head on the kitchen table
"Dance was taking a toll on you. When you explain that it was doing more harm then good, they should understand."
"Carter, can you come with me?" She asked hugging my arm
"No ma'am. Your dad already hates me. If they don't have a delightful response to your news then I know for a fact I'm going to somehow be blamed for this."
She rolled her eyes and got up. I watched her as she went upstairs to get her bags.
"What's wrong with Leah?" My mom asked
"I won't go with her to break the news to her parents."
"Why? She needs all the support she can get right now." She asked folding her arms and giving me the look of disappointment
"Her dad already hates me, mom."
"It would make her feel better if you went with her, Carter." She gave me a look. The same look my mama gives when I forget to wash the dishes.
"It's okay Sergeant. He doesn't have to go." She's the only one who calls her that besides Sara. Unless we're in school. Then she's Mrs.Dexter.
Both of my moms gave me a look
"I'm sorry but I'm not going. I refuse to go and no one can make me."
Long story short, I'm now walking up to Leah's house with her.
"Thank you for changing your mind. It really means a lot to me." Leah said looking up at me
"Let's just hope your dad doesn't kill me." I sighed as she opened her door. Her entire family was there. I'm talking grandparents, aunts, uncles, and maybe eight or nine cousins.
"Oh boy." Leah whispered
"Hey Leah. How's my favorite little dancer?" A man said. I think his name is Uncle Oliver
"I'm fine Uncle Otis."
I was wrong
"Your mom said you wouldn't be home until late."
"I umm, I-" Leah stumbled over her words
"Forgot her ballet shoes. She forgot her shoes." I said trying to help
"You usually make sure you have everything." Mrs. Bates said
"Yeah I usually do." Leah said giving me a look
"Okay well hurry. I don't want you to be any later than you are." Mrs. Bates said
Leah grabbed my hand and pulled me into her room and closed the door
"Carter what the hell was that?"
"You were choking out there. I knew you didn't want to tell your parents in front of everyone. It needs to be just y'all."
"You're right. This is killing me Carter. I don't know how to tell my parents I quit dancing."
"Well you just did." We both turned around to see Mr. Bates standing there
