The Scrolls of Crypto

Chapter 1

Edin watched the clock as the bell rang, and Edin and his friend, Simon, ran out of the classroom. They went to their lockers, packed up their stuff and walked home. 

"So, how did you get that scar on your arm again?" Asked Simon as they exited the building.

"I honestly don't know." 

"Well, it's been there for a while now."

"I'm pretty sure it was always there."

"Well, it could be something special, like a birthmark or something."

"Birthmarks aren't special."

"Oh, sure they are, all of them mean something, don't they?"

"Whatever. So, can you help me with my essay? I haven't started it yet, and it's due on Friday next week."

"Well, I didn't start yet either, but sure, I'll try."

"Ok, thanks."

They walked the rest of the way in silence. Edin took out his keys and opened the door to his house. 

"Ladies first." He joked as he held open the door for Simon.

"Shut up." He said as he went inside. They tossed their bags onto the sofa and grabbed two bottles of Coke from the fridge.

"No diet Coke?" Asked Simon. "That's a bummer."

"What's with you and regular Coke? Just letting you know, diet Coke tastes more artificial than regular Coke."

"In your opinion."

"Well, my opinion still counts."

"Whatever."

They then sipped on their Coke and worked on their homework in silence. Simon often corrected Edin when he made a grammar mistake or misplaced a punctuation mark. Within two hours, he was already done half of his essay.

After a while, Simon had to leave, leaving Edin alone waiting for his mom to come home. He turned on the TV and navigated through the channels until he found Spongebob. 

He laughed every once in a while when they did something funny, even though he knew that the show was supposed to be for little kids.

After half an hour, he was getting bored, so he turned off the TV. He went to the fridge, grabbed a pizza pocket and microwaved it. He quickly ate it, went to his room, and fell asleep on his bed.

Edin woke up to the sound of the door slamming shut. He looked at his alarm clock and realised that it was already 7 in the morning. He quickly went downstairs and saw his mom's car pulling out of the driveway. 

He waved goodbye and went to brush his teeth. He quickly ate his cereal, which had been prepared for him and left on the table, and then grabbed his bag and headed to school. 

Simon was waiting for him as usual. He was excited, and Edin guessed that it was because of the field trip that they had today. They were going to visit a Science museum, and Science was Simon's favorite subject.

They headed to their first period class while Simon kept talking about Quantum Physics and other things that were related to science and waited to be called down. They were called down shortly after, did attendance, and boarded the bus.

Simon was talking about Science the whole ride, and Edin was listening to music with his earbuds, trying to drown out the sound of Simon's voice. When they arrived, Simon finally ran out of other things to say and started quizzing him.

Since Edin wasn't paying any attention to what SImon had said before, he usually just answered yes or no while his friend shook his head in disapproval, corrected him and then moved on to the next question. 

The teacher finally shushed him while their tour guide described the museum and it's history (even though it was a Science museum), and then started handing out maps of the museum. Three other tour guides came and split the class into four groups.

Edin and Simon were in the group with Jak, the tour guide who seemed the least friendliest out of the four. He led them to the east side of the museum, where there were huge dinosaur bones and fossils and other things. 

Edin tried to ignore Simon as he kept blabbering on and on about how old they were and when Simon started fantasizing about how he would become famous after he discovered one of these dinosaurs' bones.

Soon, they were ready to move on to the next part when suddenly, an explosion shook the building. Dust and other things started to fall from the ceiling, and everyone froze. Even the tour guide was panicked.

"Don't worry, everything is-," said the tour guide, but was cut short by another explosion. This time, it was much more violent. More dust fell from the ceiling, and some of the fragile dinosaur skeletons shook and collapsed. 

A section of the wall suddenly burst open and a chunk of the wall flew into a Triceratops skeleton, breaking it. There was so much dust that it made it hard to see what was going on.

A fireball was suddenly flying towards Edin, but somehow Simon caught it and extinguished it in his hand. He pulled out what seemed like a stick out of his backpack and sent a lightning bolt towards the place that the fireball came from.

Meanwhile, Edin had gone into hiding behind a Raptor skeleton, but another fireball hit it and all that were left were ashes. He was on his feet again, but fireballs kept coming and hitting other skeletons. 

Pretty soon, the whole dinosaur section was burning up in flames. Display cases were flaming and lay on their sides, and their classmates and the tour guide had all ran away in panic. 

Simon was suddenly at Edin's side. He saw a silhouette of a man in the opening of the wall that had exploded. 

"What's going on?" Asked Edin.

He didn't reply. Instead, he grabbed his hands and said: "I'll explain later, for now, hold on tight, because this is going to be a long trip."

"Wait, wha-," said Edin, but didn't get to finish, because they were suddenly whisked away into the air.
