Chapter 3

Edin woke up and thought that someone was playing a drum really loudly until he realized that someone was knocking on his door. Edin, being to lazy to get out of bed, shouted: "Who is it?"

"It's me, Simon. Hurry up, cuz we've got a lot of things on our schedule today."

"Yeah, ok, I'll be there in a few minutes." He got out of bed and did his morning routine. He then opened the door to see Simon casually leaning against a tree. When Simon saw him, he instantly brightened up.

"So, are you ready for your first day of training?"

"Yeah, yeah. So, what's for breakfast?"

"Whatever you want." They went and ate breakfast, and then got their equipment and went to the training area.

The first thing that Edin needed to know was how to use a sword. He tried to convince Simon that he knew how to use one, but Simon kept telling him that it wasn't all about swinging it around and hitting things.

Turns out, Simon was right. Since Edin had almost decapitated Simon while practicing by himself, Simon suggested that a stick would be better. Everything was going well until Edin accidentally sent a lightning bolt that hit a nearby tree and set it afire.

Simon sighed in defeat and handed Edin back his sword. He then took the stick, which turned out to be a wand, and a gush of water suddenly extinguished the flames. Edin just watched with his eyes full of amazement.

Simon came back and asked: "How about practice duel?"

"A practice duel?"

"With swords."

"But you don't have a sword."

Suddenly, Simon was holding a sword in his hand instead of a wand.

"But...wha-...how?"

"I'll explain later. Right now, you need some practice with your sword."

"Don't wizards usually use wands?"

"Yes, but when our enemies get to close, it's better to use a sword. Sometimes, we also...ambush our enemies."

"Oh. But why can't you use magic at melee range?"

"Well, it's hard to, and it's sometimes easier to just use a sword for...newbies."

"Oh. Well, ok then."

They began practicing, and Edin's skill with a sword improved greatly. Even Simon was impressed by how fast he was able to learn.

"Wow, you're a fast learner!"

"Well, that's probably because I wasn't using a stick."

"A wand," Corrected Simon.

"Whatever."

"There are major differences between a stick and a wand. First of all, a wand always has a pointy end. Second of all, a wand-"

"Ok, I know. Whatever."

"It's lunchtime."

Edin threw down his equipment and ran off towards the cafeteria with Simon on his tail. His stomach was rumbling all the way, which made him run faster, but surprisingly, Simon still reached the cafeteria first.

After a long and exhausting day, some more training, and some mouthwatering food to cease his hunger, he returned to his dorm and went straight to bed. The dream came quickly after.

His dream was about four wizards (none whom he knew) battling a vile looking creature. The creature looked vaguely human, but a lot bigger. It also had red, glowing eyes, white hair, and a white beard.

He had no idea where this was or how he got here, so he tried to control his dream and change it into another one, but nothing happened. He scanned the surroundings, which were pretty much withered grass and trees.

Suddenly, the creature changed it's form into a much smaller creature. It was about human size now, had the same red, glowing eyes, but looked more like a silhouette instead of an actual thing.

At first, Edin thought that it was the same creature who attacked the science museum, but then realized that the other one didn't have glowing red eyes.

The creature suddenly attacked one of the wizards with some dark substance or something and the poor wizard fell to his knees and groaning in pain while clutching his stomach. Edin heard an evil laugh from the dark, mysterious creature.

"How will you defeat me?" Asked the one with glowing eyes. "Last time, it took ten of your fellow wizards. They're all dead."

One of the wizards let loose a guttural scream and charged forward, but two of the other wizards held him back while the creature laughed with evil delight.

"When will you learn?" It asked. "One way or another, the world will be devoured by the darkness. And once the sun goes dark, I, Crypto, Lord of The Darkness, will rule over the world, and there will be nothing but destruction and chaos!"

"We will destroy you," one of the wizards said.

"Oh, Howard, you have courage! Well, I wish you the best of luck trying to destroy me! I must warn you though, your father was among those ten foolish wizards who tried to destroy me. I wonder where he is now?"

Howard was infuriated and started repeatedly shooting fireballs with one hand while summoning a continuous lighting bolt with his wand, but Crypto didn't seem to be taking serious damage, only minor damage. He just stood there and smiled triumphantly.

The wizard who was groaning in pain suddenly froze and face-planted onto the ground. He lay there, motionless, while the other wizards stared in shock.

Crypto used this chance to summon another wave of darkness and sent it towards Howard.

"No!" Cried another wizard and summoned a gust of wind that scattered the dark wave before it could reach Howard.

"Thanks, Zach."

"No problem."

Crypto suddenly yelped in pain. Zach and Howard turned around to see what happened and saw that their fellow wizard had struck him with some lightning. Edin noticed that it hadn't come from his wand. Instead, it seemed to have come from his hand.

"Ozir, you have quite some skill! I haven't seen a wizard as experienced as you yet, but don't worry, once I'm done with you, you'll be the last one that there will ever be!"

"We'll see about that."

"Oh, yes, we shall see!" Crypto said with evil glee as he summoned a massive ball of electricity and sent it toward Zach and Howard.

Just before it was about to hit them, time seemed to slow, and then Ozir was suddenly at their side, using an invisible barrier to fend off the attack. Ozir used his free hand and sent the ball back at Crypto, but he dodged it and it hit a nearby tree instead, setting it aflame.

The three wizards combined forces and summoned a humongous ball of electricity and fire, which was bigger than the one that Crypto used to attack them, and sent it towards Crypto. A blinding ball of light resulted from it and suddenly, Edin was back in his room, staring at the ceiling.
