"Hey, baby." A deep man's voice whispered somewhere behind me. There was a slight echo. "Aw, come on, toots. Don't run away!"

I could feel a breeze, but the light was so dim, I couldn't tell where we were. I heard someone running.

"Look, babe. I ain't gonna hurt you no more, let's just chit chat," the voice said, this time projected towards my direction.

At the same moment as my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I felt someone crash into me.

"Ah!" a woman screamed as we timbled to the growned. She broke into a whisper. "Help me, please help me."

"Yo, d'you bring someone?"

"What's going on here?" I asked loudly, trying to sound brave.

"Listen, punk. My wifey-" the man started.

"EX wife, I'm his ex wife," the woman held my arm, I could feel her trembling.

"Whatever, my ex wife, here and me was trying to have a talk, now scram!"

"Just leave me alone, Marco!" the woman screamed. "Just stop coming after me, we're done, it's over!"

"Listen up, Thal, it ain't up till I say it is," Marco said. He was an ugly man, short, large, his yellow teeth were chipped. He wore a plaid shirt with a grayish 'wife beater' underneath, his jeans had holes and stains. He smelled of alcohol and cigarette smoke.

"Run," I whispered to Thal. "Run!"

I waited a moment until she had set off to stop Marco.

"Kid, get out of my way. Ya don't know what you're dealing with."

"I-I think that's enough, you should go."

"You should go! That's funny. Ha ha, gimme a sec to laugh, would ya?" Marco said sarcastically.

"Help!!!" screamed Thal. I looked back at her, only to see that she had only gotten a few feet. "I'm trying to run, but I'm not getting anywhere!"

"See, I told ya you wouldn't be getting away from me!" Marco laughed. His body odor filled up this whole nightmare.

I turned to look at Marco, then swung my fist into his jaw. He looked at me dumb founded, surprised that a teenager would do that.

"You little sh-" he started, as I kicked him in the stomac. He went spiraling backwards and fell on the ground.

"Thal, keep running, I got him!"

"Um, all right," she hesitated. "Thanks, kid."

I jumped onto Marco and continued to punch him, he wasn't able to move.

A distant alarm went off, I thought that we must have been somewhere in the city.

My alarm clock woke me up at 6:55 am.

I rolled out of bed and grabbed a pair of clean jeans and a t-shirt.

"Jay!" I heard my sister yell through the door.

"Hm? Um, yeah?"

"Thalie stayed the night," she said. "She's eating breakfast, so don't come out shirtless, okay?"

"Mhm," I mumbled.

"OKAY?"

"YES, yes, okay!" Gwenaelle and I already didn't get along, but mornings were the worst.

I grabbed my iPod and headset, then went to the kitchen for breakfast. I mumbled a hello to my sister's friend. I realized that this was how I knew Thal from the nightmare.
