I rushed to the kitchen to take some sleeping pills; it was much too early for me to fall asleep. The Sleepers, who looked familiar, continued to laugh and run around with their eyes shut. Their images flickered, probably because they were moving so much.
“Come on, go to sleep, Jay,” I whispered to myself as I turned off the lights and went to my bed. 7pm, my alarm clock indicated.
The Sleepers seemed to know each other, maybe they were siblings, or just friends, or perhaps even a couple.
Although I had only seen the two Sleepers, there was a third person in the car with us. The other person was a girl, about my age; fifteen or sixteen, she had dark hair and grass green eyes; she was sitting in the back seat of the car with me.
"I'm so excited to be going to this hotel!" the girl Sleeper giggled. She turned herself to look at me and the other girl. "Are you two excited?"
"Um," Dark Hair glanced at me. "Yeah, so excited!"
"Good, because these couples' suites cost a fortune!" The boy grabbed the girl's hand. "Good thing my dad owns the place!"
Everyone laughed. I finally recognized the two Sleepers; they were Seniors in my school. The girl's name was Jasmine Kirkpatrick, and the boy was Seth Montgomery. His father owns a chain of hotels called the Montgomery Inns, I realized that that's where we were going.
"We're almost there, no one forgot their swimsuits, right?" Seth winked at Dark Hair and me. I wondered why we were paired up.
"We wouldn't dream of it," I said casually. Dark Hair looked at me curiously.
"Funny choice of words," she laughed.
"Why is that?" Did she know that this wasn't real?
"Oh, no reason."
We arrived at a giant mansion that was the hotel. It had grass and flowers around, a few marble statues could be seen here and there. On either side of the main door were fountains. I could smell the fresh spring air, it felt nice. Birds were tweeting far away, and the flow of the water was almost loud enough to be a waterfall. The only problem was the fact that no one was around. Not a single car, motorcycle, bike, or truck was to be seen. No foot prints were in the dirt. No sound of televisions or radios anywhere in the distance. We were alone.
I didn't seem to be the only one noticing the absense of people. Dark Hair had a kind of 'analysing' expression. Her eyes brows were lowered and her eyes turned into a dark seaweed green. Her lips were pursed and her shoulders were tensed.
"The pool is out back," Seth said. "Jasmine and I will be there, you two go find somewhere else."
"I'm sure you'll find lot's to do around here," Jasmine winked at Dark Hair and me.
The couple giggled and ran off to the swimming pool. I knew that I had to protect them, but I had to worry about Dark Hair.
"My name is Alice, by the way," she extended her hand.
"I'm Jay," I said, shaking it.
"I think we should keep our eye on them, Jay."
"I didn't know girls liked that sort of thing," why would she want to keep her eyes on a couple going into a swimming pool? I had my reasons, but she wasn't making any sense.
"I- I just have this gut feeling something bad's gonna happen, got it?"
"Yeah, sure," I said. "Okay."
