I had never really believe in magic--but oh, that was before a certain someone named Kim Jaehwan tripped his way into my life (both in literal and figurative meaning); ungraceful, but still magical nonetheless.
He is magical in the weirdest way. Now, if you didn't know him, you'd think I'm going to write hundred pages of thesis on how magical he looks. Let me tell you: Jaehwan, frankly speaking, does not have the 'magical' or 'fairytale prince' look--that's so not him, you probably wouldn't cast a second glance if you happen to pass him down the road.
Anyways.
Jaehwan is magical in the way he sings; the way he delivers the emotion of the song is as if he wears his heart on the sleeve; from the way he grabs the mic with confidence, bewitching everyone's attention to him and only him with his spell-like voice.
.
.A year ago, Jaehwan dragged me to watch his band performance. It was the university summer festival, and his band was one of the most expected act. I almost refused if it wasn't him saying he'd treat me some Happy Meal later (thank God I agreed)
Adele's Skyfall has never been the same to me since then, thanks to him. The crowd was shouting his name like a mantra Kim Jaehwan, Kim Jaehwan, Kim Jaehwan, and I couldn't help but to do the same. To say that I was enchanted is an understatement; I wish there were other words because what I felt at that moment was surely more than a mere enchanted.
.
."So, how was it?" Jaehwan greeted me casually after the show, still busy balancing guitar case on his back.
As an English major, I felt so stupid for saying nothing but a preschool-level praise word: "Wow."
He raised his eyebrows. "Wow?"
"Yeah. My vocabulary isn't that comprehensive, I can't find any word to describe it-- I mean, ugh. Amazing. Spectacular. Superb. Scene-stealer. Stupefying. Wondrous--"
The way he chuckled and ruffled my hair after that got me choking on my own words. At that moment, I could write him pages and pages of synonyms and related words to "wow" on the spot just to make it up for my lack of response.
"You did great." I conclude in a matter of fact-ly. Jaehwan looked at me with a funny look before erupting into a series of low chuckle and took my hand into his.
He smiled. "Thank you, let's go home now, shall we?"
These feeling; the weird tug at my chest everytime he flashes a smile, the excitement when he calls my name, the feeling of secure when he's near---they call it magic, I call it falling in love with him.
p.s: we all fall for howon festival!Jaehwan at some point.
