Autumn has always been my favorite season of the year. It is exciting to see the leaves change colors; from green, to yellow, orange, and then they turn deep red before falling from the branches. It is exciting, because there are dry leaves to kick and jump at, and the air feels crisp and fresh.
Jaehwan, on the other hand, doesn't really fancy autumn. He doesn't like how it's neither too hot nor too cold; he told me how the smell of fallen ginkgo leaves are too strong for his liking, and how the influx of teenage girls ordering pumpkin spice latte in the morning makes him super busy.
It is that time of the season again, where I come to the small cafe near the university Jaehwan works at during autumn. His aunt run the cafe, and somehow he always end up as a part-timer there every November.
I told him earlier that I'll be waiting outside, and he finally come out after his shift is done, approximately fifteen minutes since I got there.
"You look warm," I say as I give him a once-over. He is wearing a khaki colored long coat and his favorite V neck white sweater atop of white shirt. He looks so warm, like embers in a fireplace in cold winter night, and everything is blurry inside my head as I nuzzle up against his right arm.
"You are warm." I confirmed with pink dusted across my cheeks.
Jaehwan chuckles, probably still shocked after my spontaneous burst of action. His left hand moves to pat my head softly. "Why are you suddenly like this? I thought you hated PDA?"
"But you are warm and I'm a little cold." I try to emphasis my point as I bury my nose into the sleeve of his coat. The fabric feels warm against my cold hand; it's comfortable.
"Suit yourself," he sighs, trying to sound nonchalant but failed miserably. There is a crack in his voice, and I don't have to look up to know he's probably smiling brightly.
.
.As a child, I loved autumn for the leaves and fresh air, but this--having excuses to cuddle up to him, is probably why I come to love the season more as an adult.
