Wes’s POV
She won’t talk to me. She won’t come to work anymore. She wouldn’t even answer the door the one time I tried to visit. I would try again, but Cynthia made it clear that I wasn’t to see her again.
That’s just it, though. If I could get her out of my head, wouldn’t I? But I can’t. It had been two weeks. And I couldn’t stop thinking about her. Thinking about what might have gone wrong.
And I have no idea what caused the sudden change. Before she went to the party with Zac, everything was fine.
Wait. So that’s it. Zac. He probably knew something.
I grabbed my keys and ran out the door, thankful that Cassy was spending the weekend at her friend’s house. Next stop, Zac’s house.

“I’m coming. I’m coming!” Zac called as I pressed my finger to the doorbell. The door swung open to reveal my best friend, grinning like the idiot he is. “”’Sup, Wes!?” he greeted, cheerfully.
“We need to talk,” I stated, trying not to let my desperation show. Zac’s attitude changed immediately.
“Come in, bro,” he said while letting me in. I followed him to his bedroom before he spoke. “What’s wrong?” he asked solemnly.
“It’s Lori,” I began. “She’s been avoiding me since that night y’all went to the party. She won’t answer my calls, and when I tried to see her, Cynthia told me that Lori ‘never wanted to see my face again.’” Zac was looking slightly disturbed by the time I had finished.
“She hasn’t been answering my calls either. I thought it was because you two were spending time together,” he explained, his concern obvious.
“What happened at the party?” I asked, bluntly. Zac got up and started pacing the length of his bedroom. Something was up. “What, dude?” I prodded.
“The thing is…,” he started, uncertainly. “I got really drunk that night. So…I actually don’t remember much. Maybe—“ Zac was interrupted when his bedroom door opened, revealing his older brother Will.
“Oh hey guys!” Will said brightly. He immediately sobered up by the glum looks on our faces. “What happened, guys?” he asked, concerned. Will had been like an older brother to me, so I decided that I would talk to him. Maybe he could help. I nodded at Zac, silently telling him to bring Will up to speed.
The words that came out of Will’s mouth afterwards surprised me. “I remember that night. I was asleep when the doorbell rang. I opened it to find you sitting outside, drunk off your ass,” he said, nodding at Zac.
“Oh, right. I did wake up at your condo the next morning. I’m guessing Lori dropped me off…?” Zac thought aloud.
“And you were acting real weird that night,” Will said, thoughtfully. Huh. This should be good.
“Did he say anything about what happened at the party?” I asked desperately.
Will thought for a moment before answering, “Actually, he kept talking about you, Wes. Something about you getting all the girls. And how you weren’t a long term relationship guy… And you kept repeating the same phrase over and over, Zac.”
“What?” Zac and I asked simultaneously.
“Uhh...Smash and dash. You kept saying it as I was bringing you in,” Will finished, embarrassed. Shit. Lori thought I was dating her for sex. Shit. Shit. Shit. My inner monologue was interrupted by my best friend.
