I stood there with a duffle bag slung over my shoulder and my sunglasses dipped low on the end of my nose. It was hot out, and there were bugs flying in the air in front of my face. The road that I stood on was mostly dirt and only a small bit of asphalt. It was nothing like the concrete jungle that that I was used to. I missed the city already. Hell, I missed my life, but there was nothing I could do about my new predicament. I had no family left after my mother passed. My dad had high tailed it out of our lives a few years into my childhood, leaving my mother with a three year old to raise in a bustling city.

I guess that's what got her in the end. She always spent time looking out for me, making sure I was okay, keeping me out of trouble. She never took the time to care for herself and that's when she got sick. I did everything to get money to pay for the expenses of her condition, but a sixteen year old could only work so much, and survive so long.

So here I was, standing on the side road of a small-ass town in the middle of nowhere, where the grey hound bus dropped me off. I held a small slip of paper in my hand that had an address scribbled onto it. I told Maura, the woman who told my mother she would take me in, that the bus would drop me off at around four in the afternoon. I checked my watch and it was already four thirty and the minutes were still ticking by. By the time five o' clock rolled around, I decided to take my chances and just walk to the address I was given. I could make my way through a city, no problem, but country roads were different. They were so long, and winding. So I picked he main road and started walking.

After about ten minutes, sweat was dripping down my forehead and my leather jacket was less than suitable for that kind of weather. I stuffed it into my bag and continued on my quest to find the house I was looking for. Another thirty minutes went by and I heard the gravel of the road that I was on rustle behind me, and a truck pulled up beside me. I looked into the cab and saw a blonde woman smiling at me.

"Zayn?" She asked once she had rolled the window down. I nodded, not really knowing the woman, but I guessed she was Maura. I had only met her once, when I was very small. All I remembered was that she was blonde, and well, this lady was blonde.

"Maura?" I asked back. She smiled and turned in her seat to move some things around inside the cab.

"Throw your bag in the back and hop on in." She chirped. I did as she said and placed my duffle bag into the bed of the truck. I walked around to the passenger side and got inside. "Sorry that I didn't make it to the bus stop. I had to get the horses in before the storm hit." She pulled back onto the road and I looked at the horizon. There were no storm clouds in the sky, so I wasn't so sure what she was even talking about. Also, horses? I was pretty sure that I had never seen a real one in my life. This was going to be strange.

" 's okay." I muttered, leaning against the window. Soon enough, rain splattered down onto the glass. I guess Maura was right about a storm coming in; after all, it came out of nowhere. I looked back to the bed of the truck and was thankful that my duffle bag was waterproof. I didn't want to start off my new life with soggy clothes. "So you have horses?"

"Yes we do! We also have chickens and goats as well." Maura smiled, slowing down on the road as we entered a cluster of homes. Lightening flashed through the sky and thunder soon followed. Though, as quickly as the storm rolled in, it was gone. We were back in the sun and out of the small neighborhood, driving down the road with fields on both sides. Ah hell, I really was far away from home.

No Zayn, this is your new home.

I shook the thoughts about the city away from my mind and took in my surroundings. These fields and large farmhouses would be my home. Maura would try to be my stand in mother, but no one could replace my own mother. No one. I would have some serious adjustments to do.

"Oh, and you'll just get along great with Niall." Maura sang on.

"Niall?" I looked up, through the windshield, as Maura pulled into a long driveway. The house was large and had a porch that spanned the entire front. Behind the house was a big red barn. At the doors of the barn stood a blonde boy, around the same age as me. He was shirtless and the skin of his back was well tanned. He was pulling a horse along by the reigns into the barn. I gulped hard and averted my gaze.

"Niall is my son."

Well great.

A/N: Hey guys! This is my new Ziall fic! It's loosely based on footloose, with the boy from the city going to live in the country, but that's about it. There's not going to be some weird law that bans dancing or anything like that. This is just going to be about Zayn's troubles in adjusting to a new life much different than his own. I'll start posting chapters as soon as I finish Stuck Here and get working on Until Now again. Please leave a comment, or vote if you liked the prpologue!

Much Love
