Nilasing na Tilapia

Nilasing in Tagalog means "drunken". This tilapia recipe is marinated in wine and fried until crispy. Crispy tilapia belly is just delicious.

Ingredients

2 pcs. tilapia, scales and innards removed
2 tablespoon rock salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon five spice powder (optional)
½ cup cornstarch
1 cup all-purpose flour
1½ cup shaoxing rice wine (or any cooking wine)
Cooking oil

Instructions:

1.) Season both sides of the tilapia with salt, ground black pepper, garlic and five spice powder. You can omit the five spice if you don't like it. Rub all over the fish including the cavity.

2.) Put fish in a bowl. Pour the cooking wine on fish. Marinate each side for atleast 20 minutes.

3.) Heat oil in pan.

4.) Combine the cornstarch and flour in a deep plate. Coat tilapia in flour mixture.

5.) Fry one side of the tilapia in medium heat until crispy golden brown. Turn over to cook other side as well.

6.) Remove crispy fish from pan and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.

Serve hot with spicy vinegar as dipping sauce. Goes well with steamed rice. Enjoy!
