Sirena's POV

It's been six years since Phoenix's parents took her away. I haven't spent a day not thinking about her. Ray said she would do her best to the cops and child protective services, but whenever she is spotted, she vanishes. I've tried my best to be strong, to try to live without her. Ray got me back into school, year round so I can catch up to my grade. Now I'm in online college, not sure yet what I want to be. I'm taking some mythology courses because they are interesting and History is always a fun subject to study.

Ray is my official guardian because she won the court case against my parents and didn't want me to have to suffer through an orphanage. Ray's orphanage idea for homeless LGBT+ kicked into gear three years ago, over one hundred kids were sent to her because their orphanages didn't want LGBT+ people in them. She didn't mind the workload though, especially because I help out a lot. I take care of the newbies and do a lot of cleaning for her, which she really appreciates. It saddens me that Phoenix was never here to experience the success of this place.

Ever since Phoenix's parents took her away, I have locked myself out of the dating game forever. I have many friends at the orphanage, but I told them straight out of the closet, that I can't deal with another heartbreak. I'm twenty-two and still am telling this to people! It's why Ray is taking me out tonight to a karaoke night at some random club. She left the orphanage in the hands of the many other social workers that she hired to keep the place running smoothly.

So now I'm at his nightclub, with her, in my best outfit, sitting at table awkwardly. She's sitting across from me, pointing out girls she thinks I would like.

"Oh come on! That girl over there looks like your type! You should go talk to her!" She laughs.

I shake my head, "How do you know what my type even is?"

"I just think about what you liked about Phoenix, then bam, your type," She giggles, raising an eyebrow at me.

"We've been over this before, Phoenix is the reason I'm not going to date anyone. I don't want to have my heart broken again!" I sigh, exhausted by her lack of understanding, "Isn't the reason you don't date because of the same thing?"

She rolls her eyes at me, "No, I'm just too old for love...... plus I got and the orphanage to take care of, which is a handful!"

I laugh, "You're only in your forties!"

The lights began to dim in the room and a man walks onto the stage. Oh no, karaoke time. I hope that Ray doesn't make me try to sing. I can't sing, like at all. I have the worst vocal cords ever plus I'm an alto, there's never any good woman's alto songs.

"Welcome everybody to our weekly karaoke night!" The man says with fake joy in his voice, "Our first artist isn't actually here for karaoke on the fact they are in a cover band. They just want to play there cover songs to start off the karaoke night right!"

Then four people come on stage quickly. Two of them are lugging an entire percussion set by themselves, while the other two set up mics and tune their instruments. The group in general looks like a classic cover band, though each member has a unique style.

The drummer has fishnet stockings, a red short skirt, black army boots and a crop top that says rebels. The drummer also had neon orange hair tied back neatly in a bun. One of the guitar players (there were two) sported a very emo look, all black with skulls and with long wavy neon purple hair. The other guitar player has a more hipster look, a plaid blue dress with long sleeves and cuffs, blue ballet flat shoes, and neon blue afro hair. Then there was the goddess of the group, the prettiest one, the one everyone in the band would die for. She has jet black hair with streaks of her bandmates hair color on certain sections of her head. She had a ton of makeup on, all of it dark colors.
