My hearing was the first thing that fully came back to me when I started to wake up. At first, I could only hear the hum of machines and a beeping that was in time with my heartbeat, which was also thumping in my ears. There was a slight tapping noise coming from my right not very far from where I lie. That lead to the conclusion I made of being in a hospital room with a window not being far from where I am and that it must be raining. However, I couldn't remember how I got here, where here is, or why. Everything in my mind was fuzzy and jumbled. Suddenly, a click and whooshing sound entered the only part of my body beside my brain that was working, my ears. Heels click on the ground with the sound of heavy boots clunking behind them replaced the sound of a door and drowned out the sound of the machines and rain. Slight movement could be heard, but my other senses were still useless for me to use.
"She's stable and should be waking soon." A female voice broke the silence.
"Good. When do you think she'll be able to move?" A deeper, more masculine voice replied.
What the hell happened to me!? I wanted to scream at the two people, and demand they give me answers!
"The drug should start wearing off as soon as she wakes up, but it'll take about an hour or so before she's back to normal." The woman said. I didn't hear a reply from the man, so he must've nodded his head in reply. "Call for me if you, or her, need anything." I could tell the true message was to not need her for anything. Well then Miss Sassy, I'm just laying here paralyzed for some reason, but you just keep worrying about yourself okay? After her statement, I heard the same clicking of heels and the closing of the door. Thank God above she's gone.
The sound of a chair scraping against the ground and the man fall into it filled the room for a split second. He let out an exasperated sigh and I heard the slight slapping noise of his hands clutching together. From that, I knew he was exhausted and I could imagine his old tired face in his hands. The question is, who is he? Do I know him?
“You know, if you could wake up any minute now, that would be great and it would make my life a hell of a lot easier.” His voice through me off from determining his age. It, by itself, sounded young, but mix it with the clear tiredness and the maturity in his tone that laced each word made me believe differently. Also, then, there’s the clear underuse of a large vocabulary and the way some things slipped out of his mouth, it made him seem like almost a teenager. He’s the first person I can’t detect anything from his voice. It scared me and made the desire to be awake even more demanding.
If I could, I would’ve scoffed and rolled my eyes at what he said, but as of right now I couldn’t. Was this whole entire place filled with jackasses who only care about themselves? These people would drive me insane if I stayed here longer than necessary, which would not be happening if I had any say. I will be out of here as soon as my legs can move on there own again and I can actually see what’s going on. The last thing I need is while I’m trying to get out of this place, I run into a wall or something because I’m blind. Hell, I do that anyways!
The weight holding down my eyes slowly started to lighten and as I tried to open them they fluttered. A part of me wanted to leave them closed, just to return the favor of pissing off the guy next to me, but I need answers. So, curiosity won and my eyes snapped open. However, the quickly shut back together as pain form the bright light above burned them. The lights shut off seconds after my eyes shut in discomfort and I allowed them to slowly open this time. I let my eyes flutter around the pure white room before they landed on the person standing by the light switches. He was tall, probably a good ten-ish inches taller than me, and well built, very well built. Dark Hair that was cut short laid on his head and his dark eyes watched me, as if calculating every little thing about me as well. His jaw clenched and he crossed his leather jacket cover arms.
My voice still wouldn’t work, so I was depending on him saying something, but he never did. Instead, we both just sat there staring at each other.
