A mental institution. Very bright - max lights - house lights, too. Completely bare staging. 1314 sits a few inches shy of dead center on the floor, rocking back and forth (subtly) and counting to seven in strict time, switching languages at random. (Note: each patient is dressed in white undershirts & plain pants, and has a large tag dangling from their right arm with their appropriate number.)
1314: One - two - three - four - five - six - sept - un - deux - trois - vier - funf - sechs - nana - ichi - ni - san - cuatro - cinco - seis... (etc. This continues quietly underneath the action, never stopping until the end. Under no circumstances should the actor break the rhythm.)
After about 30 seconds of this (or right when the audience begins to feel discernibly uncomfortable), an elderly mute, 431, enters with several packs of cards and a chess set in a sack (which he pulls out and sets down immediately upon entering). 431 is in an uproar, throwing cards in the air, offering them angrily to the audience, ripping them into shreds and tossing them at 1314 (who doesn't react or acknowledge 431's presence), etc. (No comedy.) As this is going on, 1134 enters and crosses diagonally, breaking the straight line only to go around 1314. As she walks by, she stares blankly ahead and says (rapidly):
1134: Nothing, it is not made to be in people, you know, I can pose as positive, that as long as that (bad liars) I can imagine. So I drank the head of the hill insignia and those who had to commit to it. And he, too, picked all the tallest trees that took up me, it fell, most of all, the lightest of the left organs, the left organs to the urgency of the river of life. I started the country, teaching people to the biggest buildings, up to the constitutional order, the members assigned to management, and the building of the burning, and south. At the end, I guarantee a bloody dishrag for a lifeline: you are always there to express the great work of grace.
1314's numerical chanting grows in intensity. When 431 runs out of cards, he sits down on the ground, opens the chess set, and sets it up. Each piece is in the correct position, but white and black alternate on each space. Once the board is complete, 431 stands up, claps his hands twice, and begins playing solo, alternating sides to make each player's move. Every time he disagrees with a move, he knocks a piece to the ground. After 3 moves, 1314 enters from the adjacent corner and crosses again. This time, during 1314's speech, 431 notices her. His entire character changes - he becomes violently agitated, seemingly fighting with himself to not harm her.
1134: There is nothing wrong with those you trust me; I think they can not relax (fake) well. So on the mountain to drink, and people's orders need to be kept. The light body, which on the left, which gave me above the left voice, which has fallen down, and which not all good trees are the high man, the living stream, just might remain. I started with the most important things in the state, the constitution, the regulations, and the hospitals and the people who wanted me to have the right. As a result, I took a baby from the hardening of the cloth that was already hard, and he did not have time to show kindness.
1314's chanting, while still in perfect rhythm, has almost become a shriek. 431's attention is drawn by something up in the rafters. Nervous. He begins picking up the cards and dropping them into the sack as quickly as possible. 1134 enters again:
1134: For me, nothing I think it is not comfortable (wrong). Instructions should be kept in the mountains (wrong) and rules on drinking should be established (wrong). That light falls on the body (wrong), leaving no voice on my left (wrong), it is good for those living in trees good for those living in trees good for those good for those good for good. What is most important in the Constitution is the initial state and what my hospital wants to do. For this r- For this reason, they did not receive serious youth and strengthened their clothes until the necessary time.
At some point, 431 loses the battle with himself and rushes 1134, knocking her down (though her monologue continues through this). Hands around her neck. 1134's going blue, but seems to be struggling for something in her pocket. At the last moment, she manages to get it - a small penknife (or something less lethal to the actors, though it should look appropriately scary to the audience). She wields it in 431's face, threatening to thrust it into his neck. They hold this pose for a while. Then steps are heard around the corner (offstage). Immediately they break their respective grips, 1134 puts the knife in her pocket, 431 runs and slides the bag with the chess set and cards offstage, and they both lay on the ground on opposite sides, seemingly comatose or asleep. The only sound should be 1314's chanting and the footsteps, which are getting closer.
15 seconds pass. 1134 and 431 are motionless. A NURSE with a clipboard enters and immediately fixates on 1314. A disapproving stare. 1314 continues chanting The NURSE draws a large hypodermic needle from her pocket, kneels down, and injects 1314 in the neck. 1314 slumps. The NURSE stands up, straightens herself, looks fondly at the now-quiet 1134 and 431, straightens herself, checks her clipboard, etc. Complete silence and stillness for 20 seconds. Blackout.
