Anorexia isn't a fashion statement. It's a disease. You don't just wake up one morning and decide not to eat, its a gradual process. A process I wish I could have prevented.
So this is me, Im called Callie. It means beauty in Greek. I'm eighteen years old, I study physiology. I adore penguins and im hoping to get in to university next year. Oh, and ive got Anorexia Nervosa.
This is the first time i've spoken to anyone about my struggle, the first time i've let anything out. I'll tell you everything, right from the beginning, each little detail. You've just got to promise me one small thing.. that you'll be my friend. That you wont judge me.
This story may be distrubing for some readers but I assure you, by the time you've read my story, you wont take anything for granted. You'll realise the beauty of the world and take a second to think before not holding that door open or looking at the floor when a stranger smiles at you.
Because I do, I take nothing for granted anymore.
Like the silly little things, waking up and smelling your breakfast. When you see a full moon, or realising there's a sequel to the book you love. Meeting someone with the same taste in music as you, late night drives and when people do things for you without being asked. Or how about seeing kids do something you taught them? Having something to look forward to, the chocolate at the bottom of an ice-cream cone, the thank-you wave from other drivers, when your hair stays where you want it to and the sound of raindrops on your umbrella. The moment before a kiss, crawling back in to a warm bed, the morning after a night of rain, seeing your breath on cold days and trying something on that fits perfectly.
There all prime examples of the small things you've never noticed until I just metioned them. But now you have, you've realised how nice they are and how much you actually would miss them if someone took them away from you. Just like me, Im a prime example of a survivor. I survived Anorexia Nervosa, and here's my story.
