Death is just a predator much higher on the food chain than we are, and our perception of it is as limited as an ant's perception of a child with a magnifying glass.
TRIGGER WARNING: SUICIDE (BRIEF)
I know what's going on. Everyone thinks I'm insane, but they haven't seen what I've seen. I had been walking home one night when I saw a jogger collapse. Before I could even cross the street, all the street lamps flickered out, and I could barely see the person on the ground.
The wind was rather loud that night, and I had to rub my hands together to keep warm. I guess that's the reason I could see Death that night. They struck fast and precise. The poor human had no idea what hit him.Ever since that night, I knew Death was not an inevitable thing, but a hunter. If only Death were to be eliminated. Would people stop dying?
That's why I've decided to kill Death. I would train every day.
I will get stronger and faster. Whatever it takes.
On the day that I "accidentally" electrocute myself, I'll be ready. I'll steal Death's scythe and kill them with it.
5 years later:
Today's the day. I know I'm ready. I'm a black belt in several different forms of martial arts, and I've mastered hand to hand combat and knife fighting. There's no way they can beat me now.
As I stood in the kitchen, I started to mentally prepare myself for the fight I was about to have, like the boss fight at the end of the video game.
As the sink filled with water, I thought about what would happen if this didn't work. Maybe I can just let myself die peacefully. When it was filled, I plugged the toaster in, put my hand in the water, and dropped it.I stood in a defensive stance, waiting for them to attack. I could see my dead body laying on the ground but paid no mind.
A smooth, godly voice cut through the painful sound of my breathing and the sizzle of the remaining electricity pulsing through my body.
"I'm impressed. I never thought a human could possibly catch onto my game, let alone plan an attack. Such confidence. Maybe I'll go easy on you."
Those words made me sick to my stomach. Suddenly, I felt like an ant under a child's magnifying glass.
"Actually, maybe I won't." They said with a sickly grin. They dashed towards me, faster than anything I could ever dodge. Just like that, it was over. No matter how much I trained, I could never defeat that power. Maybe that's just how the world is meant to be.
That's my last thought as my body hits the ground.
Death is inevitable. No matter how much you try to fight it, it will always win. Don't let your one life go to waste trying to make it longer. Instead, let your life be meaningful.Live instead of survive.
