My father's voice stops me from reaching for yet another piece of cake, "Cassie, tomorrow is going to be a big day, why don't you go to your room for the night?"
I sigh and sit back in my seat, "Oh, I almost forgot. Well, goodnight then. Oh, and thank you, mom, for the lovely dinner and even better dessert."
With that, I stand up, before turning to push my seat in. I nod at each of my parents, before exiting the dining room and making my way to my bedroom. It doesn't take me long to get to my safe haven – the only place where I am free of society. The only place where I can assess what happened during the day, and maybe hop on the net to see if I can gather any information.
Once in my room, I softly shut the door behind me, before letting out a relieved sigh. Finally, I can think. So much happened today, I think this is honestly the most eventful day of my entire life – aside from the day I was birthed, but that's a whole other story.
Today, I got to see the face of my true love, who just so happens to be part of the wealthiest and well-known families on Venus. I also was told, albeit vaguely (and with much reluctance), that Venus has something against Earth, because why else would they be removing Earth from their databases?
No. Wait. Their databases are linked through the net. Any information that would be in the databases, would be from the net. But, Venus doesn't control the net. The net is controlled by Mercury. Meaning that Mercury must have something against the blue and green planet. But, if Mercury has something against Earth, and is removing anything regarding Earth from the net, then that means that they either want to start a war, or were paid to remove the information by someone who does.
Feeling determined to find some sort of information, I take a seat at my desk, and stare at the net-screen in front of me. I swipe the screen to unlock it, and immediately the net pops up with a search bar. I look at the screen, and then over my shoulder before typing 'Earth' into the search bar.
My results pop up instantly – or, rather, lack of results. According to the search, there is no place called 'Earth'. A message is also on the screen, typed up in not-so-friendly red lettering.
The net is currently under construction. At this time, some information is unavailable. We assure you that the net will be working properly soon enough, and apologize for any inconveniences this may be giving you.
I bite back a noise of aggravation, before typing in 'Net Center' into the search bar, hoping to find some information as to why they are practically removing Earth's existence. I click on the net-page for the center, but nothing comes up other than tours or positive messages and lies about hopes for the future that involves 'all the planets together as one happy galaxy'.
I can't stop myself from glaring at the screen. When I said that the world was fake, I was just talking about how people treat each other, and how everyone smiles and conducts themselves. When I thought the world was fake, I was only thinking about this planet – I was only thinking about Venus. Apparently, the falsity extends to other planets as well, the falsity spans the galaxy, probably even reaching the moon colonies.
How can people stand to be so fake? It's completely disgusting. Even better yet, how can people not notice anything is going on? I can't be the only one able to see through the false security and peace created by society. There has to be someone else. There has to.
Something like deleting a planet from the net would have – should have – been released to the public years ago, yet I'm just finding out about this today, and I could very well be the only one on the planet who knows. One would think that the extermination of an entire planet would be known about, especially here on Venus where everyone seems to know everything about what's going on in the world. I guess everything the people here know was force-fed to them by a society that only speaks of peace and harmless gossip.
I begin to become completely disgusted with the ways of society, and of the galaxy. Mindless people, false people, they're no better than the artificial intelligence units roaming the streets - at least the AI units seem to want to care, to feel. Machines seem to feel more like people these days, while the people seem to be like machines. Cold. Unfeeling. Operating with a false sense of happiness and peace.
There's going to be a war with Earth – it's inevitable at this rate. When the whole of blue and green planet finally realize that they've been deleted, there is no doubt in my mind that it will lead to war – something that hasn't been seen for at least a thousand years. The net is the same on every planet – if there is maintenance, all net connecting devices experience it. They took, or are working on taking, everything about Earth off the net. The other planets will be exposed to this lack of information, and hopefully those planets aren't filled with false people who are only exposed to the things they want to be exposed to. Everyone who works on the net knows, which means two thirds of Mercury's population, as well as those working in the 'net hubs' on every planet know.
That means that those working on the net hub on Earth know of what's going on – they know that they are being deleted. Why hasn't something happened by now – usually the Earth is quick to gather arms (or at least that's what the history books have said). Why haven't they contacted an allied planet? They should have by now. Deleting a planet from the databases, the net, that's almost like deleting a planet from existence. That's basically like a declaration of war – I think, I don't have any experience with war other than what I've read in historical texts.
So, war has been unofficially declared on Earth. At least, that's what it seems like. It also looks like I'm the only person on Venus who knows about it, who wants to do anything about it. Perhaps that's because I was matched to someone on Earth. Perhaps it's because I want to expose those on Venus to the actual truth - and not one conjured up by those with the twisted desire to make everything peaceful and happy. I don't know my reasoning for wanting to save Earth, but perhaps I don't need to know.
I look at the clock at the corner of the screen. It's getting late, tomorrow is going to be an important day, which means that I need to stop what I'm doing and attempt to rest. I slowly push myself away from my desk, and get up from my chair. There's no need to push it in – this is my safe-haven; society's rules don't apply here. With that done, I shuffle over to my bed, before taking off my light-blue dress, and climbing under the sheets to lay down on the most comfortable object in my room.
