Rylies pov

I looked around the trees near me, the sun had started to set not long ago. I don't know how to get back home. "Claire!" I call for her once more in hopes that she will somehow find me. I would take whatever punishment I got for scratching her furniture, I didn't mean to. I just want to go home.

Id been wandering these trees for a while. I thought I was just near the park and walked towards noise but it just led me deeper into the woods. I jump in fright as I hear an animal howling in the distance. "Claire!" I try again.

I sit down with my back against one of the trees, tears pricking my eyes. "Claire..." my voice breaks before I can shout her name. As the night wind blew against me I started shivering. I would feel warmer in my cat form, but ill also be much smaller and easier for predators to pick off.

I sit here and shiver for who knows how long, only able to see from the light of the moon. I was slowly drifting to sleep when the crack of a twig wakes me. My ears perk up and swivel around, peering into the darkness to try to find whatever is getting closer.

Whispers can be heard in the near silent night and I quickly get to my feet. "W-Whos there?" I call into the darkness, internally cursing my stutter. The only reply I'm met with is the sound of the wind and the night animals chittering.

Suddenly there's a light, I have to shield my eyes while they get used to the bright light before I'm able to see three figures standing in front of me. At first I think the humans found me and would take me home to Claire, then I noticed the tails.

"Wild hybrids." I whispered in awe, I thought the humans had killed the remaining hybrids.

"Pet." One female spits back in reply, making me flinch at the tone in her voice.

A second female lowered the light to aim at the ground rather than me.
"Dakota shut up. You're scaring her."

The first 'dakota' scoffed. "Just proves my point. She's a human lover."

The two seemed to get a bit into a bickering match so I studied both.

The first female was an Inu, a dog hybrid. She looked like some kind of husky, I think, because she had long white and grey hair with stunning blue eyes. Her fur was a dark black. She was well built and stood about 5'6 is my best guess.

The second was much leener, but shorter 5'1. I'd never seen a hybrid like her before. She had long white ears on her head and a cotton tail. Kind of reminded me of a bunny. She had white hair and green eyes.

Finally there was the third figure. He was still in the dark but I could tell he was a male. A very well built male. He towered over both girls, probably passing 6 feet tall. When he let out an annoyed growl both girls shut up.

He soon walked into the light. I saw curly brown hair and honey colored eyes.  I couldn't really see his ears because of his hair but I think he was another Inu.

"What's your name?" The bunny-looking one asked me as she kneeled down.

"Rylie." I reply quietly, not trusting any of these creatures.

"Okay Rylie. My name is Violet. That's Dakota and Jay." She says, pointing at each person in turn.

I gave a shy smile and nodded. "Can you tell me which way it is to town?" I ask her hopefully. I'm sure I can find my way back if I follow them.

"See, she's a brainwashed pet. She doesn't want to be near us she wants to return to her stuck up human." Dakota told Jay.

"Shut up Dakota." He replied in deadly calm voice.
"Stand up Rylie."

I obediently did so, afraid of anything they may do to me. I just want to get home.

"Come with us Rylie. There's a clan of hybrids not far from here. You can be with your own species. You can be free." He coaxed me towards them

I took a few steps towards him then paused as Claire's face filled my mind.
I could imagine the tears in her lovely green eyes if I didn't go home.

"But... I have to go home to my mistress." I spoke. Still, the draw of being with my own species was strong. Other hybrids like me. No more punishments. No more fear.

"I-" I paused. "I'll go with you." I decided.

"Great!" Violet chirped. She took my hand and started walking, well more like skipping, off in the direction of the village.

I'm sorry Claire. I thought to myself as I followed them. I want to be free.

I looked at my parents in confusion. "Mommy, why are you crying?" I asked. My voice cracked but I hugged her. I don't want mommy to be sad.

"Because Rylie, I'm about to leave you for a very long time." She told me and kissed my forehead.

"Where are you going mommy?" My lip started to quiver. I don't want my mommy to leave. I'll go with her.

"That doesn't matter sweet heart." She cooed to me. "I have a present for you."

I nodded sadly and looked up at her. She pulled out a small stuffed bunny then handed it to me. I grinned and hugged it.

"That has my fur in one of the ears." She pointed to the left ear on the bunny. "And your father's fur in the other." She explained.

I held it to my nose and nodded, reconizing the familiar scent of my parents.

"No matter what happens Rylie, you will always have us with you." She told me. I was smiling until I saw the tears fall from her eyes.

"Mama..." I didn't understand what was happening but seeing my mother cry made me cry. Before I knew what was happening I felt hands wrap around me and pull me from my mother's arms. "No!" I screamed. "Mommy!" I reached for her.

My mother gave me a sad smile. "I'll find you my kitten. I promise I'll find you."

And that was the last time Rylie ever saw her mom.
