Y/n's pov:

It had been four months...four long months of radio silence aboard the Nathan James and I, Y/n Carter was about as sick of it as any of my crew mates.

All those months ago when Dr Rachel Scott set foot on the ship I had been assigned to "assist" Scott's mission. In other words I was Rachel's lap dog. In all honesty it was shocking. As one of their best lieutenants in the warfare unit, a crucial member of the vulture team I couldn't wrap my mind around why they'd put me in this position. Nonetheless I kept my head up accepting the order, knowing better than to question my superior.

But working with Rachel was not a walk in the park. I had worked on this ship since I was twenty, I was now twenty four. After four years I was used to orders, I was even used to being kept in the dark...but this? This was something else. Even though I spent majority of my time with Dr Scott, I knew nothing about the woman's mission and in all honesty I doubted that even Captain Chandler himself knew much.

A couple of days ago we had been in Egypt and that's when shit started getting sketchy. Rachel got out of the helicopter in a biohazard suit and came back five minutes later with a distressed look on her face still refusing to reveal anything about what we were doing here.

The mission was supposed to be over days ago now. The crew had passed the last test with flying colors, radio silence was meant to be broken and we were meant to get to see our families again. Unfortunately plans change.

Just a couple days back, after standing in the freezing fucking cold Arctic weather waiting for Quincy and Dr. Scott to collect their samples of god knows what the crew received the news. We were not returning home, the mission had been prolonged. We weren't even allowed to break radio silence.

So that's how I ended up here loading my gun, once again getting ready to face the coldest climate I've ever endured. Danny and Franklin were in another part of the ship throwing on their snow camouflage suits but I could hear their voices coming down the hall. Seconds later they appear in the doorway "Y/n/n" they say simultaneously as they enter the helo bay "You guys ready?" standing up I start zipping my white jacket walking past them.

"As I'll ever be" Danny chuckles before speaking up again "in all honesty it's should be easy, as in I could fall asleep kind of easy" I huff trying to push away the feeling that something isn't quite right.

Jesus Christ it's the Arctic...what could even go wrong

what could even go wrong
