"You know I'm not alright,
this is where I draw the line.
I've tried to run, I've tried to hide,
but I'm so badly broken.
You know you swept me off my feet,
and now I'm stuck beneath the bridge you burned on top of me
and I'm so badly broken."BADLY BROKEN- Get Scared

Having dinner with her parents had always felt somewhat awkward, if not forced, but after her fight with her mother, having to sit at the table in silence while they kept glancing at her every now and then felt more unsettling and unnerving than ever.
So she was grateful, to say the least, when one evening, after coming home from Violet's house, she found a note on the kitchen counter, in which her parents informed her that they'd gone to a charity event and wouldn't be home for dinner. Next to the note, there were a few dollar bills, which Udiya hastily took.
Sure, the fact that they couldn't even bother to call her bothered her a little, but at the same time she was grateful, and the fact that they left money made her feel a little better. Not because she loved spending their money recklessly- even if she did, as selfish as it might sound- but because it showed her that they didn't let what happened between them get in the way.
It showed her that they still cared, even if just a little. Enough as to not let her starve. And she still did as well, even if she tried to convince herself otherwise.
So it was with a less heavy heart that she reached for her phone and dialed Violet's number, already having planned their night together.
As per usual, she picked up almost instantly.
"Did you forget anything?"
"No, I just wanted to tell you that I've got the house to myself, so feel free to come."
There was a pause on the other side. Then, "Aw, if you wanted to hook up with me, you should've said so."
Udiya shook her head in amusement. "Shut up. I'm being serious here. So, you gonna come or what?"
"Sorry, but I can't. My parents forced me to go to this event, and I'm just-" grunt, "-finishing" another grunt, "-getting ready."
"What the fuck are you doing? It sounds like you're being killed or something."
"I was just getting this fucking dress on. It's so fucking tight, you can't even imagine. My dear mother thought it would be a good idea to surprise me and buy me a dress," said Violet in a mocking voice. "It's cute, I'll give her that, but the problem is that it's at least two sizes smaller," she wheezed as Udiya started laughing. "Fuck, I can't breathe."
"Well, I wish you the best of luck and if you decide to ditch or something-"
Violet didn't let her finish. "Listen, I really gotta go, sorry. But this dress is fucking killing me, literally. I'll call you later, okay?"
"Okay," she started saying, but Violet had already hung up.
Udiya sighed. She was going to spend the night on her own, it seemed.
What a surprise.

After parking in the restaurant's lot, Udiya got out of the car. It was a new restaurant, opened just a few weeks before. She had intended to go there with Violet- they'd heard only positive things about it- but they never really got the chance to check it out. Now was a good time as any, even if she was by herself.
