HYEJIN

But as I pulled away, a long, ominous alarm sounded.

Jimin's heart had stopped.

I froze, unable to process what was happening as doctors and nurses ran in, some yelling at me to get out. My breath picked up and my heart began to race. I was hyperventilating. Some nurses started to carry my out as I wouldn't move. I kicked at them, screaming, not wanting to leave.

"NO, YOU CAN'T TAKE ME AWAY, PLEASE!" Jungkook and Ji-Hyun ran towards me and they both held me tightly. The others started to appear around the room as the doctors brought in a large machine, the defibrillator. My breath ran ragged and heavy and my face was streamed with tears. Tears formed in Ji-Hyun's eyes too, as well as everyone else's. I could see my blotchy nose from crying, in Ji-Hyun's eyes as he began to cry too.

"3, 2, 1 CLEAR" My breath stopped for a moment, as I heard the charge of the defibrillator. I heard the shock and the sound of Jimin's body crash down against the bed. The monotonous flatline still sounded. I cried into Jungkook's shoulder and he put his head into my hair, trying to muffle his sobs.

The recommended five seconds was reached. "3, 2, 1 CLEAR!" The shock sounded again, as did the crash of Jimin's body. Still lifeless. I saw Taehyung sink down the wall, his nose red and eyes glazed over with tears. Chae-Young and Hoseok grabbed to each other, both emotional. Yoongi, Namjoon and Jin all stood together, eyes wide in disbelief, visible wet patches on their cheeks, and white knuckles, pressed up to their mouths.

"3, 2, 1 CLEAR" This repeated 4 more times, each time I stopped breathing for a single second before muffling my wails into Jungkook's wet jacket. On the 7th try I pressed myself to the glass, watching as Jimin's lifeless body crashed down on the mattress, still lifeless. The flatline pierced my ears. I felt dizzy and sick. The recommended five seconds went again.

"3, 2, 1 CLEAR." The shock sounded and his body crashed again, but there was a long pause of complete silence. A doctor walked out, head down. He looked tired and the corners of his mouth were turned downwards. It was a grave expression. There was no more alarm and a hum from the ventilator was hardly audible. Doctors were still crowded around Jimin, playing around with his tubes and emptying buckets. Half of me was filled with hope and the other half with dread.

"Are you the girlfriend and the brother?" He asked nodding towards Ji-Hyun and I. Without hesitation I nodded. "Please may you follow me." He was monotonous, leading us away from everyone as the blinds of Jimin's room were closed and the door was locked.

"Doctor, why did you have to see us alone? Do we need to sign something? Does he need another surgery?" Ji-Hyun asked, tears in his eyes. I stayed silent, trying to process all the options that could be true. The doctor guided us into a room, shutting the door behind us and nodding his head to two seats a front a desk with a name plaque in the centre. Mr. J. Woo.

After sitting down, listening to Ji-Hyuns question, and sighing while pushing his nimble hands through his greying hair, he looked up, shaking his head.

"I'm sorry, we couldn't do anything more." he paused. "But Mr Park Jimin suffered such extreme blood loss, his brain waves slowed, his breath rate shallowed and as a result, his heart, stopped."

My world stopped spinning. A shrill beep reverberated through my ears, making me feel nauseous. My heart pounded, pulse racing, palms clammy and cheeks already wet with burning tears. My lungs felt completely empty despite my gasps for air. The doctor came to my side, telling me to breath, but I just pushed him away, fleeing the room as Ji-Hyun sat, unable to process anything.

Falling back against the wall, my sight went fuzzy around the edges as the room started to spin. I saw the boys dash around the corner, seeing me, distraught, and Ji-Hyun, unresponsive. Tears fell from their eyes too, realising what had happened. Jin leaned down, hugging me tightly as I sobbed into the collar of his shirt, just wishing for 1 more minute with my beloved Jimin.
