The Accident

Coby swerved and we managed to not crash into the truck head-on, but it caught the back bumper and sent us spinning. I screamed as we hit a rail and the car fell upside down in the ditch. I hit my head against a window, I heard glass shattering, Coby groaning and the last thing I saw before I fell unconscious was a white airbag blowing up into my face.

When I woke up, I saw my mother sitting by my bed. Something was off. Maybe it was the strangely bright neon lights, or my mother's bluish ears, or the fact that I wasn't in my bed.
"Where am I? What happened?" I murmured.
"You're in a hospital, dear," my mother whispered gently. "You were in a car accident."
"Oh no!" I started to panic. "What about Coby? Is he ok?"
"Who's Coby?" My mother asked.
"My..." I thought for a moment. "My date."
She nodded. "He's in a room over."
I sighed in relief. I felt a sharp pain in my rib and winced.
"Oh by the way," my mom said. "You have two fractured ribs and a sprained arm. Coby had a dislocated shoulder and fractured knee." I raised my hand to mouth to gasp in shock but grimaced and tears sprang to my eyes as I realized most of my body was in pain, especially my head.
"I'm sorry it hurts so much." My mom sympathized. "I need to get to work though. I'll come by again afterward. Rest."
"Alright."
I took a shaky breath.
It will all right Willow, I thought. You're a strong elf.
I smiled. My father often said I was tougher than he was. I missed him so much, but I was glad he wasn't here to see me suffer.
I'll be strong, Papa.
A nurse walked in with a platter of food and helped me sit up.
"Make sure to only use your left hand." She said. I looked at her, confused. "You know since your other one is sprained?" I nodded. "When can I go home?" I asked. "You can go on Monday."
I picked up my phone from the bedside table.
13 Missed Calls
Crap.
I called Cynthia back.
"Hey what's up!" I said.
"Oh my gosh, Willow are you all right? You weren't answering your phone calls all day! I was scared your date went violent or you died or something! What happened?"
I chuckled softly. "It's okay Cyn. Coby and I just got into a car accident." She started the panic again. "It's really fine though! I just have a sprained arm and he just has a broken knee. I'll be able to go to school on Monday." She sighed. "Thank goodness!"
"Yeah," I said. "I'm just disappointed I didn't get to go on a date. We were just about to pull into the parking lot!" "Yeah, that sucks." She agreed. "Maybe you can plan something for next weekend."
"Yeah maybe."
"Well, I have to go, talk to you later!" She blew a kiss into the phone.
"Bye!"
"Bye girl!"
