Danielle is released from the hospital and Max spends as much time with her as he can. Trevor finds himself drawn to his father's house more and more. The more time he's around Danielle the more confused he is.
He just can't get over the feeling that Danielle is using his father. But no matter how hard he tries he just can't see anything but honest caring and love between the two of them. He also can't deny that she doesn't act like a normal gold digger. She doesn't spend lots of money and the money she does spend isn't for top of the line clothing unless she's ordered to do so for an event his father needs to go to.
His father does lavish gifts on her, but he notices that Danielle isn't comfortable receiving them.
He's gone to some of the events with his father and Danielle. She can hold her own, but she really isn't comfortable being there and they leave as soon as it's polite to do so.
He on the other hand has one date after another that just wants his money and to be seen with him. He finds himself jealous of his father and Danielle.
"Hello?" Trevor says sleepily. His phone wakes him up. He looks at the clock, two AM. That makes his heart start to pound. No one calls that late unless there's a problem."Is this Mr. Trevor Williams?" The voice on the other end of the phone is professional and cool.
"Yes, who's this?" Trevor asks more than a little nervous.
"My name is Alecia Henry. I'm the head nurse in the ER. I hate to inform you of this, but there's been an accident. Can you come to the Mercy hospital immediately. We need you to fill out some paperwork for emergency surgery."
"I'll be there as soon as I can." There had been an event he was supposed to attend with his father and Danielle, but at the last minute a business emergency had come up. If he'd been there... He jumps out of bed and races to get dressed.
In less than five minutes he's on his way out the door. In fifteen he's at the hospital. He races inside and he's goes directly to the ER receptionist.
She hands him some paperwork and a police officer comes over to him. "Mr. Williams?"
Trevor looks up annoyed. He needs to fill this paperwork out. "Yes?"
"The accident wasn't all that accidental. Do you know anyone that would want to hurt your father or his wife?"
With those words, Trevor drops the pen that he was holding. "What did you say?"
"I'm sorry, I'm not very good at this. I do apologize. I know that this isn't a good time, but is there anyone that might want to harm your father or his wife? His car was intentionally run off the road. There were a couple of eye witnesses that swear to it. We have an APB out on the vehicle, but we need to know if there is anyone that might want to hurt or kill him?"
Trevor feels the blood drain from his face. "Not that I know of. Father is a business man but he's rather a saint compared to many. He has enemies, all successful businessmen do, but I don't know of any that might try to kill him or Danielle."
Indeed he hasn't found a reason to do so and he's looked long and hard.
"I see, thank you. Sorry to interrupt you," The officer says and moves away.
Trevor ignores the strange conversation and gets back to the paperwork.
"Mr. Williams?" A tired looking doctor comes out asking for him.
"Yes?" He's been sitting here for hours and no one has told him anything about his father or Danielle.
"We did everything we could, I want you to know that. Mrs. Williams lost the baby, but we were able to save her life, we induced a coma so that her injuries might heal better at this time. I'm sorry, your father's injuries were just to severe. We weren't able to save him."
Trevor feels like he's about to fall down. He feels someone guiding him to a seat. He sits automatically. There is pressure to put his head down and he allows it, too shocked to do anything else.
His father is dead. Danielle is in another coma and her baby is gone. His world turned upside down this night.
"Mr. Williams?" Trevor hears someone call him. Dazed he looks up and finds the concerned gaze of the doctor.
"Is there anyone we can call to be with you at this time?"
"My entire family is here." Trevor says still in shock.
"I'm very sorry for your loss, sir."
"Can I see my father?" Trevor asks with tears in his eyes.
"Of course, follow me." The doctor takes Trevor back through the ER and to the room where Max is. Where they'd done everything they could to save him.
Trevor sees the blood that had been missed on the clean up. His father looks like he'd been in a beat down. Trevor can't stop the tears from falling.
If he'd gone to that damn event then maybe his father would still be alive.
That reminds him. Danielle.
"I'll find out who did this dad and they'll pay." Trevor promises the man that will forever remain asleep.
He leaves the room and looks for someone that can tell him where Danielle is. They tell him which room she's in and he goes there.
For a week he goes to the hospital and sits by Danielle's side. He knows that she won't be waking up, the doctors want her to heal a bit more before they bring her out of the coma. Until she is, his father's funeral is on hold.
He has his investigator start his own look into the accident that took his family away from him. So far he hasn't been able to find anything.
The doctor's have started reducing the medicine that has kept Danielle in a coma. Trevor is at her side as the medicine wears off and she wakes up.
"Trevor? Where am I and where's Max?"
"You're in the hospital. There was an accident. Do you remember?" Trevor asks her intently. The doctor had come in and waits for her to answer this question as well.
"No," Danielle puts her hand up to her head, she feels a bandage wrapped around it. "Last thing I remember is feeling sick and wanting to leave the stupid party you managed to get out of. Max was finally able to pull away from those wanting to talk to him and we left. Everything else is a blank."
Danielle looks at Trevor sharply, "Where's Max? Why isn't he here by my side?"
"Danielle," Trevor looks away from her. "Dad didn't make it. You lost the baby too. I'm sorry." Danielle sits in shock and Trevor starts crying. He'd managed to hold it off until then.
Danielle curls up into a ball and starts crying. "No, no, no." That's all she can say over and over again. She doesn't even notice when something is injected into her IV. She slips back into the welcoming darkness.
