man oh man do i love editing. sarcasm. fuck editing.
MIRANDA'S POINT OF VIEW.
"I have to ask about the elephant in the room," Calum said awkwardly. "Is that really your kid?"
I got up and started to make a cup of coffee. "Yeah."
"Who's the dad? I mean, if you want to tell me."
I didn't look at him. I gulped. "You are."
"What?" he asked in shock. "No way."
I finally looked at him, sitting in his spot at the kitchen table. "Way."
"So, that time we had sex...at Michael's party a few years ago...you got pregnant?" he asked, putting all of it together. I nodded. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"I didn't want to ruin your career," I mumbled pathetically as he stood up, coming over to me.
"No, Miranda. I would've put my career on hold. Anything for family."
A little bit of hope made my heart flutter, but then I realized it was all about Jasper. Calum didn't care for or love me, only his son mattered. It made sense, but it still hurt. Guess my schoolgirl crush never went away. "Okay..."
"What's wrong? What did I say that was wrong?" he asked frantically.
My eyes watered as I stared down at the ground. "Nothing, Cal. You should probably go back to your life. Jasper and I will be fine, I promise. He's got me and Kate."
"No." he said firmly, which shocked me. Usually his tone was so light. "I'm staying here with you. I'm staying here with my family."
"We don't have enough room."
"I'll find somewhere." Calum said, pulling out his phone.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm calling Michael, and telling him to come over with the guys. They need to know this, Miranda."
I nodded, understanding. And in a short time, the three guys Calum called brothers arrived at my house. Michael, Luke, and Ashton.
"Hi," I said shyly as Michael smiled, Luke waved, and Ashton full-on hugged me. I laughed and brushed myself off, and we all sat down in the living room.
"Cal," Michael clapped his hands together. "You said you had big news for us. What is it?"
Just then, Kate, Patrick, and Jasper walked in. They all looked at the boys. "Oh, hey," Kate finally said. "I know you guys."
"Hi, Kate." Ashton smiled dorkily. Michael rolled his eyes.
"It's been years, and you still remember my name?" Kate laughed. Ashton smiled and shrugged. Aw.
"I was just about to tell the boys the news." Calum informed them. Jasper ran over and jumped on my lap. I hugged him.
Patrick turned to me. "You told him?"
I shrugged. "Had to."
"Okay, what news?" Michael asked. "I'm not one for cliffhangers."
"Right, uh, so this is Jasper," Cal gestured to our son. "Come here, little man. Come sit." he patted his lap and Jasper hopped of me and onto him. Calum caught him with a grunt. I laughed. "I'm your dad."
And that's when all hell broke loose.
"No way, mate. Nope." Michael said almost immediately. "Impossible."
"You guys haven't seen each other in three years," Ashton said. "I remember that party. We haven't been back in town since."
"I think she's lying." Michael snapped.
"Michael, shut up." Kate said.
"No, she's a fucking liar!" Michael shot back.
"What the fuck do you mean?!" Patrick yelled. Jasper covered his ears and buried his head into Calum shoulder. Calum held him as I watched in horror.
"I mean that your friend is a lying bitch, dude! There's no way Calum slept with that!"
"'That'?!" I asked, offended.
"A busted little slut!" Michael yelled at me.
"Michael, I will beat your ass!" Kate screamed.
"Shut up!"
"Michael don't yell at her!" Calum shouted as Jasper started crying. "Look what you're doing!"
"I think we all need to calm down," Ashton said.
Too late.
Patrick's fist connected with Michael's nose and they started fighting. "Stop!" Kate screamed. "Stop it!"
Jasper broke free from Cal's grip and he ran over to me. I held him as Calum stood up and helped Luke break up the fight. "Ashton, will you take him, please?" I asked over all the noise. He nodded and took my crying son from me.
"Follow me," Kate told him and they all went outside and across the hall to Pat's apartment. Jasper was crying and screaming. He hated loud noises. The door shut and I looked back at the mess that was happening.
After the fight was broken up, Patrick and Michael were still arguing.
"FUCKING STOP IT!" I shouted at the top of my lungs and they both shut up and looked at me. "If you guys are going to fight in front of my, I mean our son, get the hell out of my house."
Calum looked hurt as he turned his attention back to Michael. "I can't believe you, man. You said that when we got older and got married and had kids, we would still be there for each other. Well, it's pretty fucked up, but I just found out I have a son and that's a lot!"
"Cal, I didn't mean it like that." Michael replied quietly.
"Let's just sit down and figure this out." Luke said and so, we did.
