I woke up to the same annoying noise as the previous days. I slammed the button on my alarm and got out of bed a few moments later. I took a longer than usual shower to try and wake myself up. As I was curling my hair, I looked at the clock. I gasped when I noticed I have been getting ready too long and it was time for me to leave the house. I ran out the door and headed towards the school, without eating any breakfast. This will not be a good day, I can see it already.
Usually I meet up with Adam half way to school as we live close to each other, then again, in this town everyone lives pretty close to each other. But, where is he? I stop by our usual meeting place by the random big rocks in the centre of a little roundabout separating the three roads. I look around and search for him with my eyes. I look nervously at my watch to make sure I am not late. Where are you Adam?
"Hey, are you ok?" I send him a text hoping he overslept and nothing serious happened to him. He loves his sleep.
I couldn't wait any longer and decided to head to school by myself or else I will be late and considering my incident with Mr.Hayls and homework yesterday I cannot afford to be late today, as English is my first class.
I finish at my locker just as the bell goes. I gather all my things and head to English. Why does my locker have to be so far from all my classes? I can feel my stomach growling loudly, but I decide to ignore it. Hopefully I can make it till break time to grab some food in the cafeteria.
Suddenly I feel myself crash into something, like a wall has suddenly appeared in front of me. My daydreams about food have been interrupted. As I look up, I notice that it wasn't something, it was rather someone. I feel my cheeks turn bright red as I realise I have walked into someone without noticing. When I finally snap out of my initial shock I look directly at the person I have so rudely bumped into. A pair of shiny deep green eyes is staring back at me, dark, full eyelashes flustering in shock. These eyes look so familiar, but I just can't place my finger on it.
"Excuse me. I am so sorry, I really wasn't paying attention to where I was heading." I finally managed to say after what seemed like forever.
"It's no problem. Just next time look where youre going." The stranger replied in a cheeky tone.
He winked at me as I was prepared to walk away. I was a little taken back by such a strange action but decided to ignore it. As I finally reached English class, everyone was already seated. I walked over to my empty seat and plumped down on it like big sack of potatoes. Mr.Hayls was not even in the room yet, I don't know why I was rushing to get here on time.
I look at my phone to check if Adam has replied to me. Blank. Nothing. No reply. I am getting more worried now, what if something happened to him? I will call him after this class and find out where he is. As I am about to start typing another text to Adam, I hear a familiar deep voice outside the room. I look towards the door as it opens. I am met with not one, but two pairs of beautiful green eyes. It is Mr.Hayls and that new guy I have seen today. Oh! A new guy! Of course! How could I forget! Mr.Hayls asked me yesterday to show him around. Oh how could Ive been so rude to him this morning.
It's a strange thing. The two of them have the same green, entrancing eyes. Could they be related?
"Good morning class. We have a new student joining us this school year. His name is Aidan Delaney. Aidan, would you like to introduce yourself?" Mr.Hayls seemed uneasy as he spoke.
"Not really." Said Aidan as he proceeded to make his way towards the back of the class to sit down.
Oh god, will this guy be a pain? Is this why this is supposed to be a punishment? Mr.Hayls and Aidan both have different surnames, so surely, they cannot be related? Those eyes however, they are unique. I have never seen eyes as beautiful as those. How can two people have the same unique, gorgeous eyes? Perhaps I am overthinking this whole ordeal.
The class continues. Mr.Hayls talks about the role of women in the Great Gatsby. He seems rather unfocused, as he keeps glancing to the back of the room. Always watching carefully.
As the bell rings I run out the door to call Adam, but I am abruptly stopped by Mr.Hayls calling and running after me.
"Miss Morgen do you think you can get out of this so easily?" he chuckles, "what about that punishment ay? Come on, I'll introduce you two." He says in his deep voice.
I obey and follow him into the room. I guess Adam will have to wait, although I am very worried about him. Where could he possibly be? He would never ignore a text from me. As we enter the room, Aidan is sitting on top of my table, fiddling with a pen I have forgotten on the table in my hurry out of the room.
"Aidan, this is Jessic-" Mr.Hayls begins to talk but I cut him off like I did before.
"Its Jess." I politely correct him, once again.
"Im sorry, yes, this is Jess. She will guide and help you for the first month before you settle in and get familiar with the place. I think you two will get on well together. I really hope you will. " Mr.Hayls says and gives Aidan a stern look.
Aidan groans, gets up and walks towards the door with my pen still in hand.
"Where is room 312?" He looks me right in the eyes when asking me.
"..oh..um..I have math there next. I can show you. I mean you can come with me, I guess." I struggle to get my words out, I'm not really sure why.
Aidan doesn't say anything, he just stands at the door waiting for me to come out. I look at Mr.Hayls, give him a small reassuring smile that everything will be okay, and head towards the door. Before walking out I look back at Mr.Hayls one more time, he is facing away from us and looking out the window. He appears to be rather troubled and deep in thought. I wonder what hes thinking about right now. I close the door and proceed to lead the way to the math room. My math class is the top of the school. We are the best of the best and its hard to get into our class without passing special tests presented by the school. How did Aidan, a new student managed to get in? That is very impressive.
"So, Aidan, math huh? You any good? Well you must be since youre in our class." I chuckle to myself and look at him, trying to make small talk since I will have to babysit this guy for a month now.
"Yeah im okay." He turns back to me and smiles a warm smile. His attitude seems to be different and I feel a totally different vibe from him than I did back in English class. He seems more relaxed, open, and friendly.
"You know, im the best in the class. So if you ever need any help, im always there." I say trying to offer my support and make him feel welcome.
"I'll be sure to keep that in mind, thank you." He replies.
I can see a small smile appear on his face. He seems to be a nice guy.
Maybe we can work together.
