Prologue

May 25th, 2013

Monday

            They called him the Hybrid. He was a myth to those that did not work for him. The rest would know soon enough that he was no myth. He wasn’t a legend parents told disobedient children so they would go to bed at night. He was real. He was flesh and blood, and soon they would all know his name. Humans and his kind would tremble at the mention of his name. They would run in terror, hide with fear, scream with horror. It was them who had brought this upon themselves.

            “Sir,” his general said from behind him. He turned around to look at him, his eyes displaying no emotion. The General bowed out of respect and kept his eyes on the floor to show Hybrid the respect he deserved.

            “Was the plan successful General?” He asked folding his arms.

            “The plan was a success sir, a genius plan like that could never have had failed.” He replied.

            Hybrid laughed darkly, The boy thinks he can kiss up to me; he thinks I don’t know about his little mistake he had made. “Very well general, you are dismissed.” He heard the General sigh with relief and as he turned to leave Hybrid unsheathed the sword at his side and swung for his neck. He made a clean cut and the General’s head rolled off and hit the wall.

            The General had made the mistake of keeping secrets from Hybrid. He had been seen by a villager of the small community they had taken something from earlier that week. He was alerted immediately by his second in command, well he was now his General.

            “You can come out now,” Hybrid said admiring his handiwork. The new General stepped out dressed in new armor. “You have been faithful to me. For that you have my trust.”

            The new General took a knee, “I won’t let you down sir.”

            “Good. Now back to the Xiphos.”

            “It is in route sir.”

            “The Castillo is with it?”

            “Yes sir.”

            “The Anemone were shocked when you arrived?”

            The General chuckled, “Yes sir, they were very . . . surprised.”

            Hybrid laughed, “Good. They had no idea of our true intentions correct?”

            “Yes sir”, they don’t expect a thing.”

            “Good.” He headed for the door. But turned back just for a second, “Oh, General, please get someone to . . . clean up this mess.”

            “Yes, sir. I will send someone up right away.”

            “This is why I keep you around,” he smirked and pushed the door open.

                                                                      ~~~
“Sir, the Xiphos was stolen.” The messenger said kneeling before the King.
“What do you mean stolen!?” He responded.
“It is gone sir.”
“Then why are you still standing there? Go and alert our troops. They have waged war.”
“Sir, are we going to retrieve it?”
“Of course we are. But we’re not sending an army.”
“We aren’t?”
“No, we are going to send one person. Someone I trust dearly.”
“I see sir. Should I alert General Brandt?”
“Yes, we shall send him. Where is the Xiphos heading?”
“It is on the East Coast of America at this moment. The thief is said to be getting onto a ship at Boston, Massachusetts.”
“Good, tell General Brandt to report here first thing tomorrow morning.”
“Yes sir.”
“Dismissed messenger.”
The messenger turned on his heels and headed for the Generals room. He would receive the mission of his life today.
