My name is Jiovoni McAlester I am a white handsome brunette male living in a city riddled with drugs and crime. See it was my job to make sure people stayed safe I took an oath and have an obligation to keep my mom and my little sister safe since they refuse to leave this town. I look down at my watch it was already 10 o'clock my little sister Kimmi is going to kill me when I get back home.

I made sure to not stay out so late but the Chief put me on night watch in front of the movie theater with old man Rodriguez he was a highly decorated officer but was extremely racist and rude so I tried to always make our convos brief and to the point. This cop car was small though so I know it was just a matter of time before this racist asshole would say something again.

" Jio get your head in the game son all these africans are running around and your looking all starry eyed." Rodriguez said sternly. I just looked at him and nodded here he goes again with his tirades.

" Back in my day these blacks knew better than to look me in my eyes with Trump in office things are gonna change. They walk around all high and mighty with their drugs and guns and rap music . I mean now we can't say the n word without something happening and im sick of it.. Something needs to be done once and for all I mean—" Rodriguez said with anger in his eyes. I had enough going on at home so I knew I needed to leave now before I snap.

" Hey I think I should go out and scan  the area you are right something needs to be done." I tell him cutting him off mid sentence.

" See this is why your everyone's favorite Jio your a go-getter." He looked at me with so much pride I think I'm gonna be sick. I nodded at him and walked out the car towards the movie theater I could see something to kill time until my shifts over.

" How many times I tell you to leave me alone everywhere I go you show up your crazy!" I shift my head around and see a gorgeous black girl yelling at a frail light skinned man shaking.

" I swear Ashleigh I'm not following you so what's up". The man then grabs her hand and breaks into a song.

"let's get to it right away
We up in this club
Bring me the bottles
I know girl, that you came in this bitch with your man
That's a no-no girl
All this money in the air
I wanna see you dance" The girl he grabbed looked so confused and I knew I should intervene but I wanted to see this play out.
I walk closer towards them and immediately  the man looked at me and bolted out of the theater.

I begin to chase him because I honestly had time to kill so I might as well mess with this man Man for a skinny guy he sure did run very fast I lost track of him down some alley and I was about to leave until I heard someone yell "Houdini!" I walk behind the dumpster and see him twitching with his nose running I know this man did not just take a drag of coke while running from an officer I just stared laughing because this was wild.

"Please sir I didn't do shit wrong I promise my girl was just bugging." He said with tears running down his face

"It's Jio and nah you straight I'll let this slide but for real are you alright." I saw he had a black eye it was faint but noticeable.

" I'm cool me and my nigga was just playing but for real you letting me go I'm confused." I just looked at him and smiled

" I'm letting you go because you seem like your on the brink of death. However don't take my kindness for weakness I'm gonna need you to leave that girl alone she looked scared." He was a funny guy but he did look sick probably from all the coke.

" Okay bet you cool peoples I'm Chris by the way." He stuck out his hand on any other day I would've arrested him but something told me he was cool peoples so I shook his hand. This guy was hilarious but at the same time something told me I was a making a huge mistake.

3am Jio's Apartment complex

I walked inside my apartment and looked around and saw all the lights were off so I guess everyone is asleep. Every time I get home I rush to check my mom and my sisters room I'm so paranoid when it comes to them. We live in such a dangerous  neighborhood so these night shifts are becoming to be a huge issue. I need to find some way to get a promotion so I can get better hours.

"Gigi is that you?" a small voice says I turn around and I see Kimmi outside her room with tears running down her face.

"Mimi, why are you up and not in bed you have school tommrow?" Normally when I get back she is fast asleep so this is really strange.i walk over to her and pat her head to comfort her.

" I wanted to wait for you Gigi, Sarah told me they kill  cops and that your gonna be dead and you won't ever come back!" It's moments like this I wish I could afford to put her in private school everyday it's something with her and those kids. I grab her hand and start walking her towards her bedroom so she can go to bed.

"Mimi don't listen to her she's stupid I am always gonna be here for you and mom don't worry now go to bed." I grabbed a blue bear from her stuffed animals collections and handed it to her. " Mimi now take this and go to bed you have a big day tomorrow and remember I gonna be fine." My little sister grabs to bear and walk over to her bed. I walked out of the room with a tear on my face I need to get a promotion and get my family out of this place.
