Donald gazed for a while at his youngest daughter. It had been sixteen years since he last saw her, and the parental love that had for a long time been absent from his life, all at once came flooding back. The normally assertive man was for a moment at a loss for what to do. After a long period of silence, he waved to someone behind him, "Charles, take Ann back to the house and get her settled in."
"Yes, sir."
The young man took Ann's luggage and spoke to her in a deep, mellow voice, "Hi, I'm Charles."
He reached out his hand. It was warm and felt strong.
Lifting her gaze, Ann shook the man's hand and nodded with a smile.
Summer was in full swing and the air outside was sultry and hot. The sound of cicadas filled the air and dust danced in the shafts of bright sunlight. But in what seemed to be the blink of an eye, all was peaceful and quiet.
The only thing that Ann could think about was this charming young man, with his perfect smile and warm hands that seemed to speak of eternity.
"Charles, I want to go home."
"Charles, buy that for me."
"Charles, will you drop me off at school tomorrow?
My classmates all say they want to see what you look like."
"Charles!"
"You promised me you'd take me to the movies today!"
"Why are you always breaking your promises?"
"Charles..."
She had awoken from this dream countless times before, and she could still almost feel the heat of that summer and see the smile on Charles's face.
Unable to sleep, Ann lay there for a long time staring at the ceiling, before sitting up, dazed, her brain a tableau of fragmented images.
The night was cold and goosebumps appeared on her exposed skin.
Hugging her quilt, she slid back into bed.
The man next to her rolled over and a moment later she found herself wrapped in his warm embrace. His handsome brow furrowed, Jackson's sleepy gaze lingered on Ann's unbuttoned pajamas. "Couldn't sleep?"
It was as he entered her that Ann abruptly awoke from her reverie. The feeling of taking him in was so satisfying and the ecstasy she felt gradually spread throughout her whole body. Unable to help herself, she moaned, "Oh, Jackson..." Hearing her say his name, her breath heavy, only heightened Jackson's lust. The blood pumped through his veins, his handsome face slightly twisted with desire, his jaw tightly clenched, "You little minx... " No longer caring about the tenderness she still felt from their love-making only a few hours earlier, he surrendered to passion and thrust with abandon into her body.
It was already afternoon when Ann awoke, and Jackson had already left.
Rolling over, she winced a little at the soreness she still felt between her legs.
She sat up in bed and drank some water. Hearing her stir, the maid knocked on the door, clutching a garment in her hands, "Miss Ann, I was told to ask you to dress up for the party this evening."
Party?
Feeling thoroughly exhausted, Ann frowned. Inwardly, Ann cursed Jackson for keeping her up half the night when he knew fine well she had an event to attend the following evening.
"Well I'm not going!"
Hearing this, the maid seemed close to tears, "But Mr. Ryan has already sent several people over, and has already telephoned two or three times himself.
Nobody dared wake you up. They all just paced around anxiously by the door.
Raising her eyebrows, Ann simply jumped back into her warm, soft bed. "Just tell him that I'm still sleeping."
