"This school is tragic to look at," I thought to myself while walking through the gates of hell. Okay, so I know a lot of kids aren't too hyped about school but this school was... Special. For example, it's new to the county so it's not funded properly, they rented out a kindergarten building for the 3-8th graders. Quite the eternal throwback is you ask me. The staff is small and 6-8th grade was all in one class because there were only nine middle school students who enrolled. Nine.
Unfortunately, I was one of them. You see I've known the teachers from previous schools and my mom said that it would be a good opportunity to meet new kids. It's been a month already and I can't stand to wait around any longer for my education. I needed some freedom away from the glorified daycare. Most importantly, I need friends.
Every morning our old principal, Dr. Cash, would give a speech on how great this year is gonna be, ring a useless bell, and we'd all chant our schools annoying catch phrase. But I won't bore you with that. Coming from a charter school where I was known for not having much luck with friends or boys or even teachers for that matter, I wasn't looking forward for the rest of my life. I would be what they would call "Depressed."
I mean I had no specific reason to be, now that I look back at it, my life wasn't all that terrible. I had two working parents who loved me and an obnoxious brother that welcomed me at the dinner table. I had a best friend, Tiffany, who I still call my sister, and I was doing pretty well in school. I guess I was just tired of the same old everything everyday to no end. Nothing exciting, no exotic surprise superstar performance at my school or field trips to Paris. Just the same close in windowless classrooms and monotone teachers I couldn't stand.
Until that day. That glorious day, when two very special people walked through those kindergarten gates and into my life. As I looked to my right of the rickety jungle gym I saw the two people that would change my life forever. I walked up to them with a confidence I didn't know I had and said, "Hey! I'm Amy, what's your names?"
