CHAPTER FOUR

Monday came swooping down on me like an eagle. And I was the poor little mouse who really didn't see it coming. Wow, those animal programs are really getting to me.

"Ashley honey, please just get dressed," My mother pleaded in her tired voice. It was the voice that turned form angry shouting to tired pleading after I refused to listen. I groaned pulling the duvet over my head only to have her rip it of my body. The coldness pierced my skin making me squeak and jolt up.

"That is considered abuse in some countries," I mumbled glaring at her.

"Too bad it's not in this country now get dressed or I'm dragging you to school in your pyjamas," She gave me a pointed look before closing my bedroom door... taking my duvet with her. It was horrendous.

Since falling asleep in the cold didn't seem like such a wonderful idea, I resorted to taking a really warm shower. Warm enough to have steam cloud my vision to the point where I tripped on the rug on the floor.

"Fuck," I cursed rubbing my throbbing toe.

"Ashley Allen don't you dare curse under my roof!" My mother shouted. I rolled my eyes hopping into the shower.

How does she hear that, but when I call her multiple times, she appears to be deaf?

I did keep my promise after all and walked home to my mom's house after I bid Nate goodbye. She didn't even ask questions which I found odd. She was usually overprotective to the max and it rarely even bothered her that I walked home alone... in the dark! My father stopped trying to call me after a few hours which either meant he was over it and found me in a "pissy" mood, I bet he was almost certain I'll get "over it" or... he realized I needed space.

And of course, there was also the chance that he might be making out with that girl but that idea nearly had me puking so I ruled it out. After my shower I scarfed down some toast and orange juice before nearly being dragged out of the house.

It wasn't that I didn't have any friends but you have those let's-have-a-sleepover-and-talk-about-girl-stuff-all-night-long friends and then you have those let's-only-pretend-to-know-each-other-at-school friends. And all my friends consisted of the latter. I think in all my life I've only ever had one person at home... and she only visited because she was having trouble understanding Rome and Juliet.

So that's how I ended up walking, almost invisibly, through the school halls to my locker. Even the nerds -as myself- chose to not converse with me... that's a sad image right there.

I shrieked, my eyes closing, when a hard body collided with mine, sandwiching me between the locker and this... baboon!

"Sorry," The guy said pushing off me. I was about to spit fire at him when my mouth suddenly became dry and my stomach dropped.

"Oh uhm hi Harry," I said my cheeks heating up and my voice probably squeaking painfully.

"Hi," He said awkwardly, staring me up and down like it was the first time he saw me.

"Look what you did to my poor cupcake," An arm was slung over my shoulder. Harry arched an eyebrow looking at me and- I tilted my head up not sure whether the voice I was hearing corresponded with the face. And sure enough there he stood... Nate Colton. Smiling goofily down at me.

I wriggled out from his arm absolutely sure this was giving Harry the wrong impression. First he saw us at the ice-cream place and now this. Seriously Nate is ruining my last little bit of hope.

"Right," Harry coughed ruffling his hair with his hands. My knees buckled a little bit.

"It was nice to see you..." Harry trailed looking at my dumbfound face, is he serious right now?
