He stepped in looking around for signs of Ishita. He was relieved to see her helping Amma in setting the table for dinner.
"Raman!" Amma exclaimed seeing her Maarumagan. Ishita lifted her gaze, their eyes met instantly, he keenly observed the emotions hidden in them and she looked away as soon as she realised she was letting him read in them more than what she wanted him to know.
"Ishu tumne mujhe bataya kyun nahi ke tum dono dinner pe arahe ho?" Amma asked.
"Kya mai aise hi bina bataye yahan nahi aa sakti? Ab is ghar me bhi meri koi jagah nahi hai kya?" Ishita was in a state that every trivial matter was going to hurt her like hell and she would unnecessarily get upset over every silly little thing.
"Ayyo no Kanna! Mai toh sirf itna kehna chah rahi thi ki agar tum bata deti toh mai khaane me kuch special bana deti. Raman bhi hai, toh uske liye kuch achha banana hoga na" Amma had clearly ignored the word 'BHI' in Ishita's second sentence, but Raman hadn't. He was now getting an idea of the real cause of her aloofness. "I mean usko sare South Indian dishes itne pasand nahi hain na, toh mai usi hisab se bana deti kuch" Amma quickly explained.
"Aapko unki pasand napasand ki fikr karne ki zarurat nahi hai Amma. Unhe jo pasand hota hai woh KISI se bhi banwake khaa lete hain" Ishita commented.
'Kisi se bhi' Raman repeated the core words of her statement in his mind 'Hmmm' he mused.
"Ishu tum kyun hamesha uske peeche padi rehti ho" Amma scolded her "Raman don't mind her haan" Amma said. Raman nodded his head indicating it was alright.
"Khade kyun ho beta. Aao baitho. Sath me dinner karte hain" Mr.Iyer led him towards the table.
"Appa woh dinner karke aaye hain" Ishita stated
"Dinner karke aaye ho?" Amma asked to confirm.
"Mai....." Raman began to answer but before he could complete Ishita butted in "Obviously Amma, akhir unhone specially apni favourite dish baingan ka bharta banwaya tha dinner me"
'Uff meri maa! Maine woh apne liye nahi banwaya tha' Raman mentally slapped his hands in front of her.
"Baingan ka bharta? Tumhe pasand hai? Maine pehle toh kabhi nahi suna tumse is dish ke bare me" Amma said.
"Sahi kaha Amma, pehle kabhi nahi suna. Par aaj kal unke choices bhi toh badal gaye hain, taste, preferences, priorities sabhi toh change hogaye hain" Ishita was letting out all her bottled up emotional frustrations through taunts directed towards Raman.
'Mai nahi badla Ishita. Tumhara mujhe dekhne ka nazariya badal gaya hai' Raman answered her in his mind 'Aur yahi mai jaanna chahta hoon ki akhir kya wajah hai jo tum mujhe khuli nazron se nahi dekh paati aur khud ko meri nazron se' he thought.
